Surging

Feedback I Got From Other Riders:

I just got back from a great month of riding in the Alps.

While there, I got to speak to many GS riders. I made a bee line for them at mountain passes where a lot of bikes are usually parked (simply because I was taking delivery of a new GS Adventure as soon as I got back from being on tour).

Feedback I got from owners of new GS "2 Spark" models, of which most of them already previously owned oilhead "non 2 Spark" models: the new "2 Spark models do not surge". Some of them that owned the older oilheads had surging issues and were happy that the problem had been solved (and so am I).

All the best,
Alex

Re: Surging, surging, surging

My R850 didn't surge one tiny little bit. Always well-mannered, he ran as smooth as glass and steady as a rock. I miss him.

My R1100RT has a big attitude and surges like a maniac about 100 miles after a tune-up.

So here's my question(s). Does anyone know if the Techlusion folks will be at the MOA rally selling their R259 power boxes? If yes, does anyone know if they will do installations? And finally, does anyone have one installed who would like to share his experience with us?

Thanks

p.s. I walked past the Techlusion folks in Redmond and sniffed, "Hah! MY bike doesn't surge at all!!! Bad karma results from bad attitude.

Take a look at my website on the new Techlusion R259 TFi. I am in no way associated with the sales and distribution of this product. I know of the inventor and have helped well over 100 others totally eliminate or significantly reduce the surging on their oilheads. I have never received a negative email from anyone after recommending any of their products. Since I receive a lot of requests for information on this product, I developed this website:

What's surging?...How best cure it?

Hi... I've heard much about surging, but am puzzled as to what behavior of the bike (engine) the term is meant to describe... Do you mean that with the throttle set and the bike is running supposedly easily along it nonetheless feels as though one is opening and closing the throttle slightly, or not-so-slightly? I.e., the engine isn't pulling smoothly?

I've got a 2003 R1150RT that has just seemed to start doing this... i.e., if I'm running level with a constant throttle setting around 3000-3400RPM, the engine doesn't seem to want to pull smoothly..., but feels like I'm twisting the throttle slightly back and forth, when really I'm holding it rock steady. The engine, in other words, just doesn't feel smooth, but like it is slightly speeding up and slowing down. Is this the infamous surging?

And... if it is, Whaddayadoaboudit? I.e., How can one fix the bike so it stops and the engine runs smoothly at all throttle settings and loads?

I note a couple of fellows mention changing spark plugs... any info as to exactly what brand and type? Some have mentioned something called a Techlusion 259... Whazzat? And others have mentioned double sparked heads. Any votes or ideas as to the best way of taming this beast? (IF what I described above IS the infamous 'surging.'

Thanks for any and all information!
Best,
Ralph

Thanks, Bill! I shall head on over to BMWRT.com and see what wisdom is to be found there. I sure need some (or should I say, the Bike appears to!)

Best!
