Recall Harbor Freight-High lift style, MC lift

I wonder if Harbor Freight will pick up the lifts and replace them or will customers have return them, which in many cases would be a struggle. 🤷*♂️

It’s only “Harbor Freight Tools is recalling 41,715 Central Hydraulics High Position Motorcycle Lifts -- part number 99887”.

I wonder how many owners will actually get a letter…….meaning they were registered with HF?

Mine works. I will keep an eye on it. :thumb

"Affected units were sold between October 6, 2008, and February 23, 2023. The High Position Motorcycle Lift subject to this recall can be
identified by checking the item number (99887) found on the item or the packaging."

HF is asking that the hydraulic ram be returned to the store for refund in the form of a gift card.

Bought mine in 2016, but it has a different item number (69904).

With this post, it looks like it is NOT the platform lift and more the “ATV” style lift. Sorta looks like a mini roll around forklift.

My “flatbed style” lift has 68892 for a model number.

Confirmed as the “flatbed” style, really would have liked a Handy, lift. ;)

I will clarify the title.

Good catch. I have what they call a "lift table", I believe.

It's hard to find pictures of the recalled lift, I don't think this style is very popular. Seems to restrict access on one side.

Not if the lift was purchased at a liquidation, final blowout, three days only, in-store parking lot sale. So, odds are good you can keep the flashlight.

This looks like the Harbor Freight lift that I am considering buying. It occasionally goes on sale for $349. Impossible to beat at that price. I realize there are higher quality lifts on the market, the Handy SAM 1200 comes to mind, but then again at 4-5 times the price I’d expect them to be a more premium product. I’m planning on replacing the clutch slave cylinder and gear position sensor on my RT and I think having the ability to get the bike off the ground will make the job so much easier to complete than having to work on my garage floor. I’d be grateful for any insight you can offer on your unit. Have you been happy with it? Any concerns about it being stable when deployed in the highest setting with a bike atop?

I’ve had everything from my RT to my GS to my airheads on it. If you get up on the lift to put them on the center stand you want to be careful. I like to get my wife to help spot me when I’m loading a big bike on it.

The included wheel clamp is utter garbage, so I use a Baxley chock, usually. My buddy bought the new HF wheel clamp they sell separately that works more like the Handy clamp. That’s probably in my future because it can be a pain in the butt yanking a 550lb. Bike backwards out of the clamp while you’re up there on the deck with the bike. The better clamp would eliminate all that.

Mine has to be ten years old now and it gets used pretty steadily.

If I had the money, I’d have a Handy in a recessed well in the floor, but I don’t. This has worked great.

It’s large, so storage is a pain in a tight garage. I built a workbench it will slide under on the sidewall of my garage so I’m not tripping over it all the time.

It’s still about the best money I’ve spent and with the accessory wheel clamp, you should have no issue with your RT. Just be sure to tie it down like I’ve done with the 916 in this shot. You want to keep it nice and secure.

I hope that’s helpful.

PS: Ducati innards photos available, if you like that kind of thing. :ha

And good grief, not having to crawl around on the floor to work on bikes after 40+ years of doing so is a revelation. You can put your tools down and not worry about kicking them under the bench. You can actually see what’s going on and not have to lay on your side.

The only rigging stuff I’ve bought I appreciate more are the 7000 capacity Quickjacks I invested in for my car.

It’s hard to overstate how helpful it is to have a jig to hold your vehicle while you service it. Better access. Better safety. And you spend a lot less time groaning because you’re not hauling yourself off the floor AGAIN to go get another tool.

It’s so very very civilized.
