Connected Ride App Loses Ride Recording Midway Through Ride

88bmwjeff

SF Bay Area
This just started happening over the last few rides. Typically, the connected ride app records my trip, but lately, it's been dropping or recording only a portion of the ride. I thought it might be due to losing a cell signal, but today I rode in areas with good signal strength. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, any ideas on a solution?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. Isn't technology great at times.

Just guessing, but sounds like possibly a storage space issue? How much space is available on the device and how much has been allocated to the app?

Best,
DeVern

Possibly, your phone is losing Bluetooth connectivity to the TFT? Not sure what you are doing through your phone, like music, etc. I listen to Amazon music through my phone. I have stopped and shut bike off, fuel, etc., and phone did not reconnect to TFT when I took off. I knew it immediately as I had no music. Only thing I can think of.

I’ve used about 45 GB out of 256 GB, so I don’t think space is an issue. But, I have no idea how much space is allocated to the app.

Sometimes I listen to music, but I have had dropped routes with and without music playing. The phone icon on the TFT screen seems to be constant and music doesn’t seem to cut in and out. So, it appears as though connectivity with the phone is not an issue.

Recording the routes is nice to have, not a need to have. So, I guess I’ll live without out it for a while and I hope with future updates it fixes itself.

I'd report it to BMW and see what they have to say. They've made reporting issues with the app quite simple, there may already be a fix in the works. I don't use the recording feature so unfortunately cannot say if there's an issue with mine.

I have noticed that my rides are often broken into a lot of smaller segments, and they do not coincide with stops for fuel or rest stops. Maybe, it's from the app losing communication with the bike? Don't know.

I've found the app to be pretty terrible, at least on an iPhone. I realized that if initially connected and working, it will stop tracking and no longer show speed limit information after turning the motorcycle off for a break or gas even though it shows it's connected via bluetooth on the TFT. In order to continue tracking, I have to open the app and click on the motorcycle at the top center of the first tab (the page that shows overall mileage and tire pressure). Only then will it continue tracking.

You can adjust the Trip Settings in the App to make a single recording for a day ride.
In Trip Settings you have the choice to selecte Ride recording, Record Speed and Embed photos automatically.
You can also adjust the Minimum Distance, Duration and the Max. Break Time per ride.
Maybe these settings were reset during the last update.
Also for the iPhone App the Map Data where updated last Saturday 2/1/2025.

I have recently noticed some Connected App issues. As example, when I go into BMW Motorrad website and update the mileages on my 3 BMWs (2 bikes can Bluetooth connect to Connected App, the nineT Scrambler does not) and later go into Connected App on my phone (and log into the BMW Motorrad Portal) in the past the mileage of the Scrambler would be updated in the My Garage that shows up in the list. Then all of the sudden it would not. But then later it suddenly did. And at the same time that that occured, the mileage showing up in both the My Garage on the Connected App and for the specific bike (where you click the front of bike image on bottom left in the App) reverts to the previous mileage prior to the undated mileage from the most recent ride, even though the Connected App was Bluetooth connected to the bike and initially the recent miles was showing in the Connected App. So something strange is going on. In the past The BMW Motorrrad Website would not allow me to update miles and I contacted BMW America. They had to pump the issue up to more technical folks who finally fixed a software “bug”.

So, a little trial and error indicated the recording of rides works if I don’t listen to music. But, if I listen to Spotify (I have downloaded the music I like to listen to while riding) the app doesn’t record properly.

I always use the Sirius/XM app to play music while riding my GSA and no issues with the app recording the ride. I'm using an iPhone 13.

I listen to Apple Music or the built in FM radio of the RT and have no problems recording my rides for the last 29+K miles, using either a iPhone 7 or a 16.
