Are you absolutely sure your stator went out ? Mine lasted 224,500 miles and I haven't heard of one going out on an RT with that low of miles. I think some GS's had them go bad at lower miles but as far as I know the RT stators lasted longer. And when I searched for a used one to rebuild there were always GS stators but it took 6 weeks to find the one I needed

I've been a customer of this dealer for fourteen years and bought three bikes from his so I don't have any reason to think he'd give me an incorrect diagnosis. And the post that started this thread had the same issue.

$1280 for the stator

Are you serious?

So much for progress. Nothing like having the 50A - 700W car type alternator that comes standard in my 2003 R1150 GS Adventure. And the original is still going strong.

I guess the next question is, what is the alternator in my 2016 R1200 GSA LC rated at? Less I know but what systems are running for it to be producing maximum output and therefore overheating?

'13 R1200GS LC 52,000 mi Stator Bad

Plan to put a new stator in the middle of my GS next week myself.

BMW "corrected" the design in the middle of 2014 but my June 13, 2013 GS has the early one.

Early GS's had a clutch actuation post that was too short, so I plan to put in the longer, "corrected" one too.

After it can make it far enough to a dealer, I plan for them to do the driveshaft check and bleeder recall.

Glad my September 8,700 mile trip out west didn't have the red triangle battery problem, just a local ride and got home.

OP here: Did a stator replacement myself and give pictures and info on Nov. 16, 2022 at https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/burned-stator-r1200gsw-2014.1521209/page-2
