RT Settings Need to be Reset Everyday ???

Just noticed the same issue on my ‘23 RT. Better cell-based nav connectivity added, auto-cancel taken away - apparently the software minions are operating on a “net zero” basis. 🙄

I had the bike at the dealership and complained about the turn signals. They did an update of the software and fixed the issue. The software still has the current version 014-013-030 so there is a minor update to the software.

That's good to hear, some bikes never had this issue.

Fingers crossed.

Hey Guys,

Before my latest trip, I took my bike in for service, and they also updated the software to 014-013-030. On my trip everyday, I would have to go into the settings, and turn on (Checking the box), for the "Comfort turn indicator", and also the radio (See photos). This was a PITA if I forgot to do it before heading out, as you would have to pull over to do it, as the bike can't be moving to adjust vehicle settings.

Has anyone else having this issue, or am I not doing something correctly, as I didn't have to mess around with this before???

Thanks for any help.

Steve

It's a glitch in the new update! comfort setting will only stay on for 6 hours! you have to go in and turn it on when you start a new ride. BMW says they are working on a fix!

My guess is that the fix, i.e. finding and resolving the programming bug, was done about 10 minutes after the issue was first reported. The delay to implementation is #1 testing the fix (to make sure it doesn't "break" something else in the code), and #2 the actual cost of implementation itself, i.e. getting it out to all the bikes that require the fix. If fixing this issue actually requires months (or a year?!), ... ahh ... BMW Motorrad has some serious problems in their tech division. Maybe it's not a coding error, but something to do with the hardware (i.e. ROM memory). It just shouldn't take this long to fix. My guess is it'll be rolled into the next planned, maybe semi-annual or annual, bug fix roll-out. I think this kind of attitude sucks for BMW's customers/owners, though.

Firmware updates are always fraught with risk. The safest way is with a corded connection to the vehicle, like the dealer service system, but unless it’s a warranty item there’s usually a .5 to 1.0 hr service charge to connect the vehicle. So, people delay or ignore the updates. Over the-air updates sound like a solution, like Tesla uses, but even Tesla has encountered issues along the way. And, a year or three ago RAM had issues with OTA updates when the 3g (!) network cards in the vehicle radio couldn’t handle the update and failed partway through. That bricked a number of $1400 radios and the company wasn’t always great about accepting responsibility for the problem. Crutchfield Audio sold a lot of aftermarket radios out of that little episode, since the radio is an essential control element in modern cars and trucks.

So, be patient for the fix and when it comes, pay the man to hook up your bike.

Best,
DeVern (who still connects his WiFi-capable GS911via USB cable)

From My Post in the R1250RT forum:

This is interesting... I had set this up and went to the dealer to ask why it's not working, we went into the settings and it was not checked! Thought it was but the logic is misleading and I thought I had set it up earlier properly?!? Now I know I'm going bloody psycho mad! Haw. I've been riding a 1985 K100RT since new with over 300K miles on the clock. It's Auto cancel turn signals were brilliant! See what the owners manual says... I've petitioned BMW to consider this as an option since they are rewriting the SW. I think they use the on board AHRS sensor that senses lean angle to do this function, a lot more complicated than what they had that worked brilliantly a long time ago!!

About 15 years ago, a very experienced airhead rider got into a pretty good accident when someone pulled out in front of him after he was absorbed in riding and forgot to cancel. He said after that he just didn't use them anymore. I don't agree, but maybe if I had survived after something like that, I may agree as well on that :fix".

In my opinion, this is should be a safety recall given how worried BMW about safety as this is a safety critical item in my opinion. It should work as the manual states....

My bike 2024 R1250RT - Purchased in late Sept 2024...

1985 K100 manual no software upgrade for this and it works since 1985....

"The left or right turn indicators are cancelled automatically after a certain time or distance if this is not done by pressing
the switch :

@ after approximately 10 seconds at main road speeds — above approximately 30
miles per hour or 50 km/h, or

@ after approximately 210 m (690 ft) in
local or slow-moving traffic.

I'm going bloody psycho mad!

Hahahahaha, this cracked me up!!! BMW has a way of doing that after you make an expensive purchase. With all of this so called technology, this bike has become like an old computer, great when new, but will become outdated, and impossible to repair in the future. They can't even fix a software issue on a new bike, in a timely manner, imagine if it was ten years older. After the warranty is up, "Good-Bye".

This software issue has been going on for me for almost nine months, incredible it still hasn't been fixed. Fingers crossed for the fix soon, but don't hold you breath.

“Child labor laws have prevented BMW from employing a 12 year old to take their Surface into development mode to fix the glitch in the code thus making the GUI more accurate, intuitive and functional”. :whistle
