R75/5 Replacement LED Headlight

Hi,
A question for the hive mind. Has anyone replaced the 40/45W headlight bulb with an LED bulb, or even changed out the light unit without changing the headlight bucket.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

It seems a bit tricky. Good luck.

I replaced the headlamp and all signal lights with LED lights on my R60/5 LS. The signal lights were easy; the headlamp required a bit of 'fitting' adjustment but well worth the effort.

I was disappointed with a couple of $10 led h4 bulbs from eBay. One failed within 200 miles and when I took it apart to learn why discovered a melted solder connection inside, apparently it just got too hot. The other bulb is still functional but not very bright. Those bulbs measured only about 6 watts power consumption, so the bike battery stays well charged and has sufficient surplus to power a Gerbing electric liner at near max.

More expensive led h4 replacement bulbs appear to have better heat sinks. I’m going to try a 10 watt led bulb for better illumination next. Again, eBay has a good selection at less than $20, but I’m going to order one from Euromotor Electric ($38 with shipping) hoping they have already done the testing to insure it will work.
