Spark kill switch ideas for R1100s application.
Want to circulate the oil prior to ignition. On the cold days when I start, for a few seconds there is this unusual squeak? In warm weather no squeak, so I thought about being able to cycle the oil pump first before ignition as a starting regime. So for connivence, I'd rig up a secondary kill switch that would just turn off the spark.

That too, but it's prob'ly the starter: needs internal cleaning.

It looks like F5 and/or F6 (per my 1100 & 1150 schematics; I include F6 because you don't want fuel squirting in where it won't be ignited) would stop the spark (by stopping the computer), but I don't know if the starter would still spin... it looks like it probably would.

That squeak is probably from the starter one-way clutch. If you are getting a squeak because of an engine oil cause, the motor would be trash.

Great info, I'll pull the starter and dismantle the head and clean it out. If the doesn't make it go away on to the schematics.

Taking a quick step way from Byron's amazing technical R&D and the many kind, well-informed respondents... I am curious if I am the only one who peers into their garage and sees this imo glaring resemblance (or maybe it's just that my dearest "Rolf" has a sassy demeanor):

Squealing.
Pulled the starter, took it apart, looked fine, but cleaned everything since I had it open. Put it back in and still made this squealing sound for a second when cold. Went to my Hayes manual on the bike to look up the torque setting for belt tension, thinking that maybe where the sound is coming from...and found this!!! read "Note 2" Damnit! I'll check the belt tension anyway...and yes I had upgraded the pulley and belt to "maintenance free".

When cleaning the starter did you specifically clean the one-way starter clutch? This is the silver or bronze colored disk right next to the nose gear. This is the part which usually screetches when it gets dirty. It locks so the starter can turn the motor but is supposed to release so that the motor doesn't over spin the starter. There is a seam in the front of this disk. I set the starter in a nose-up vertical position and work electric motor cleaner into the starter clutch and turn it in the release direction several times to clean it. I use a wide screwdriver to pry against the starter teeth to turn the starter and turn the clutch in the opposite direction.

No. I drowned it in spray brake cleaner, tooth brushed until nothing was dirty. Shot cleaner into the seam you described but that's about it.

Curious if it’s supposed to be “that” clean and “that” dry?
