R1100s models, repair information and related

NEW SHOES. Shorter ARM
Went with HDPE Block PE Polyethylene ultra-high abrasion resistance 3/4" plastic. Held with bolts. This stuff has a grip so even on polished concrete it gets a bite and functions as steel would. It comes up on the stand with the same effort as before and looks to raise the rear wheel with about 1/2"+ clearance. Short arm brings the drive shaft almost inline with the final drive unit.

Early riding impression is markedly better at turn in and for some reason you can get on the front brake even more aggressively than before. At 6'.1" my legs are just bent while flat footed. Haven't padded the side stand however, because I felt the stock bike sat too high on the stand. Now it sits just a tad low.
Your bike is looking mighty tidy bud. Rolling mine out for a preseason wash this afternoon. First ride of '25 tomorrow?

I done did ski a lot tho. :)

Something about silver bikes don't look as dirty as other colors.

...so I sprung for the R1100s tool collection from Beemer bone yard I'd been eyeing. I had most of the tools on the top-side, but was missing the feeler gauge and the cheap plastic plug cap puller (I have a better metal one)...but my life was not complete. The underside had nothing. So I basically spent a $100 for two screw drivers of limited quality, a feeler gauge that had only two feelers:, one for "ABS Min and ABS Max" (someone please tell me what ABS part you would measure with them) and a 13mm open end. Happy that my life was now completely fulfilled...until I noticed I still had a missing tool, circled in yellow. Looks like a combo Phillips and Torx. Oh well, did get the missing tire plug handle thingy as a bonus...I know, I'm shallow.

I think the feeler gauges are for the gap between the slotted ring on the wheels and the ABS sensors.
The L-shaped tool is a T25 Torx on both ends.

Interesting. I'll try the gauges in that gap and see what's what. So the T25 is the missing tool huh. Down to only one!
Thanks Pauls

From my RT manual, the gaps front & rear should be 0.2 to 1.7 mm ( = 0.0079 to 0.0670 in.).
And make sure the sensors are clean, no tarpiculates on the slotted ring side.
(mounting torque is only 4 Nm, like hand-tight.)

I'm going to try using them this weekend, I'll mic the feelers and see what I get as well. Will report back. This weekend is check the valves day...and rebalance the TBs I bet.

Snap-On torque wrench project. I finally got around to buying one of those digital torque meters to carry on trips and to check the accuracy of my beloved Snap-on torque wrench that has taken me through 3 race engine rebuilds and countless oil changes, shock installs, etc. I love that wrench, ( click type )always brought back to zero and put in it's case when done, never used to loosen. I checked it at 50lbs it was 5ftlbs low...checked at 25flbs...5flbs low. I'll chart the entire range (1-70ftlbs?) and see what I get. Send to $nap-on? or just rechart the offsets? It's got to be 20 years old.

I would not refer to his as "shallow"... I would refer to this as "living the dream". I recently remarked to my other half that my inability to achieve a full set of anything as a lad [think... Hot Wheels, Transformers, baseball cards {though I came closer on that one}] has left me as an adult who is always seeking a full set of things, or, as in this case... all the available parts from new.

You should hunt down that missing piece [I have mine but it is kind of rusty]... the satisfaction will make it all worthwhile.

YMMV. :)

...I shall continue my quest.

Found it!...but. The Torx was actually on my original topside, in a place of the true missing tool, a large HEX key. Shot1b is the now complete top-side. But on the bottom side I have issues. In Shot2 the T45 wrench is in the position where most kits I've seen place it. It really doesn't fit there at all, I tried every conceivable position to fit it and it half-ass does but doesn't click in like everything else...and once removed it revealed two spaces for possibly two other tools. Look at Shot1 and you can see upper left is an empty bracket next to the large screwdriver with a similar but larger bracket , it has a stop on the other end...for what? Then next to the yellow screwdriver is another clasp and a stop for some other tool, but doesn't really fit the Torx? Hmmm.

Other tool guesses: Tire gauge (a short one)?, Tire valve remover? Two longer feeler gauges for valves adjustment? Or not two tools, but one large tool like a mini braker bar extension for the wheel nut wrench? Or large tire gauge? Upper left bracket takes something with a handle/bar smaller than the yellow handle screw driver but bigger than the Torx.......or BMW decided, screw you, we aren't giving you all these tools and take this Torx wrench, you won the war already so don't complain!

Here's one shot. I can shoot the rest of it later today if you like?

Yup, that's a complete top-side. Anxious to see what you have underneath. Thanks for the effort Skibum.

Show me your bottom...toolkit. Pull that rascal, flip it over and send me a shot of it. Someone has the answer to this.

Quit yer whining! Here's what I've got.

You can see a slot that's missing something, is it the bar for turning the spark plug socket? Yours is missing too. Maybe I'll get in touch with the previous owner and see if he's got it kicking around?

IMO the tire repair kit and cloth are akin to the '85 Mark McGuire rookie card I wanted so badly at age 11... just rare and desirable. But mayhaps that's just because I do not have them... so much want.
