R100RS rear view mirrors - can't see...

Just got my bike on the road and went for a nice weekend drive down highway 1 in California. What a great way to get riding again! Lovely bike but i noticed I had little real knowledge of the traffic and cars behind and around me due to how narrowly placed the mirrors are on my bike. I'm pretty sure I can't be the only one who has had this issue. How did people solve it? I have a small wide angle mirror stuck to the right hand side and that helps a tiny bit. I could of course just solve it with technology and get one of those sculley helmets with an integrated rear view camera and heads up display! :)

Pic of her on the ride yesterday...

Mirrors from '87-on models are bigger and bolt right on

Mostly you need to move your body a bit

Moving body to see = contorting. Not that comfortable. Plus it looks like I'm constantly lifting a cheek! ;-)

Are the mono shock mirrors just larger or do they stick out farther too? I was hoping that someone made mirror extensions or there was a known hack that extended them a bit wider out...

Thx

Lew - I don't trust mine either. But still, you wouldn't ride a bike with no mirrors though either! (And a set of obstructed ones are kinda the same!)

Rode mine for 27 years with no problems and no pain from " contorting."

One tip is to lose obsession with seeing directly behind and adjust the mirrors farther out than you might originally consider. Next lane over is more important. Let the outside part of the glass actually do something.

Napolean bar ends are the only good solution I've found. Just make sure you get the real thing as the knock offs are useless.

I wrote an article for the Owners News a couple of years ago about Mirror Extensions that I
bought. They worked very well for me!

The maker of these Mirror Extensions is William Casali

Good advice, and pretty much what I do. Got sick of seeing nothing but my elbows, so I adjusted them out a bit so I can see where it really matters.

There was also a write up that may have been on the RS77 Owner's group web site about using Kawi Ninja 900 mirrors. I don't recall the exact year or model of Kawi, but supposedly can be retrofitted to the RS.
