Mounting a GPS on a R1150RS

Hi Guys,
I'm thinking of getting a GPS for my bike, but mounting on a R1150RS seems less straight forward than bikes with conventional bars.
I am thinking of mounting an aluminium plate to the top triple tree and then attaching the GPS to that, so I don't blemish the triple tree.
I have access to CNC Router so it should be relatively straight forward to draw and cut out.

Just wondering what the two black caps are? Think of using these to secure the plate. Should be rigid enough?
They cover short 6mm studs. Are they just decorative?

Curious to hear others ideas mounting a GPS to this bike.....

I still miss my R1100RSL...

The bolts you see at the top of the fork tubes can be unscrewed and replaced with regular bolts, but I'd be cautious about mounting something as heavy as a gps using those bolts.

Horning still makes a mount for the R11 bikes. It clamps onto the top triple clamp and uses an adapter piece to mount different GPS units. Gave a look here:

Look under the crescent shaped black plastic piece just forward of the ignition switch. You will find two capscrews suitable for RAM ball mounts.

I mounted my GPS using a u-bolt/RAM mount system on left. I preferred an unobstructed view of my instruments and it placed the GPS next to my left hand. Location is a personal preference. You may prefer the center mount.

Still another option would be the RAM clutch cover mount, with a short arm.

It works better than the pic shows - I can actually see all of my convex mirror and the entire speedometer.

As much as I try to avoid interacting with the GPS while in motion, there are still times when it needs a tap or two. Keeping it on the left reduces the amount of time my hand is off the grip and improves ignition switch access.

I assume the mount clamps around the U shaped part of the Handlebars, as I don't see a round section to clamp on to?

As noted by Paul here are some pics of the cap screws he mentions. I have a 3 and 1.5 socket arms linked together with a 1.75 arm ball inch. This raises the Garmin 590 closer to eye level and changes the angle. I found this reduced the suns glare significantly.

Yes Steve, you are correct. On my RS there was just enough room (shaped properly) to mount it. Once installed I used a 2" arm to the cradle. If that doesn't look like it will work, Blacque's suggestion looks good too.
