Border Crossing at Whitlash MT/ Aden AB

My Montana and Alberta maps show the roads both north and south of this crossing to be unpaved. Have any of you been this way? Are the roads suitable for street tires?

Dave, I just looked at Google Maps http://maps.google.com/ and zoomed WAAAAY in ... it looks like a road.
I just sent a note up to a friend in Jasper asking about this; if/when he responds (he's sometimes on the road for a while), I'll let y'all know.

That's a good idea! I just did it, there's pics of the roadway north of the border, but not south. The north part looks very well graded.

I came through there this past April and the road was bumpy but paved. I have a trip report around on the F650.com site with photos of the area. If interested I can probably find a link. the border guards were . . .umm sarcastic and Texan as I recall.

Thanks, Lee. I found your thread on f650.com. What a great ride and report! I also like riding through what most see as empty spaces - really clears the mind.

I'm not aiming at the Monchy crossing, but the one further west at Aden/Whitlash. At something <1000 vehicles per year, it's the second-least-traveled crossing. But I'll bet the border guards are stamped from the same mold.

Right you are David. I have been through the Whitlash crossing before though and just got the two misconscrewed. Hope you have a great ride and if you get to Edmonton give me a PM.

Dave:

I don't know your route alignment, but Carway/Port of Piegan is a good crossing, with scenic roads north and south of it. And you can do your easting just north of the border, on 5.

Have a good trip.
