Authority Throttle screw housing for R11RS part#

Throttlemeister setup can be very tricky on many bikes. It works by exerting pressure on the end of the throttle tube. But throttle tubes expand and contract depending on the temperature. The range of adjustment of an installed Throttlemeister is limited. If the weather where a person is riding has rather large temperature swings then unwanted things happen. In the cold the unit may not reach enough to apply pressure, and in the heat of the afternoon Sun the pressure may be excessive once the throttle tube has expanded. I have had both the unit not doing anything in the cold to near lock-up in the heat on the same day. Just an FYI to be careful.

Heated grips can impact the Throttlemeister, too. The one on my R11RSL worked well but had a noticeable difference in pressure with the grips on.

Best,
DeVern

Damn, I have heated grips and only use them during big rides...which is when I notice it failing...hmmm.

I had a Throttlemeister on my R1150R. It was essentially unusable if the heated grips were turned on - unless it was shimmed so as to be useless in normal riding. Physics is physics. The expansion and contraction of the length of the throttle tube was greater than the range of the Throttlemeister. With the grips on it would essentially lock the throttle if it worked at all on a cool day with the heated grips turned off. I found it aggravating.

Had one on my S and was not a fan.

Having inherited mine with my bike, It looks like to install originally you cut the throttle side bar length to fit? So if I was to remove, my bars would not be the same length?

Never ever heard of cutting the bar for this; sounds like sanding down the end of the plastic throttle tube (1 or 2 rch's) may be called for...?

I'd say that given that Throttlemeister seems to be defunct and their bits were $100+ and that you can buy the housing for your oilhead along with an appropriate set screw for $30 in total, it seems like a no brainer.

Motobins is the solution if you'd like a throttle screw for your oilhead, I'd say. My brother got his parts delivered to S. Texas in a couple days and now he's got a throttle lock/screw/cruise control.

The simplest, cheapest functional solution is always the best one, right? :D

Absolutely. We put this on Voni's R1100RS within weeks of its delivery in May, 1993! Engle Motors handling the Authority bikes for Kansas City made this simple back then.

kbasa, how do I source the parts? go on Motobins and find some throttle housing? Then the screw is sourced from BMW? Tried to reread the posts but am confused.

Found this page on Motobins. Go to Motobins, select the R1100RS, then select Handlebars, etc.

Kurt has you covered right above. You need the new housing with the hole drilled in it and the screw, which are both available there. Use the part numbers on the first page of this thread to find the bits you need.

Awesome guys, thank you.
