sorted out
So to put this to rest, hopefully, I wanted to send this update. I changed the coil as I mentioned before and thought that was the fix, but it died again so I changed out the brain again, no spark, then I changed the hall sensor with a used one a buddy lent to test it, and the bike fired up. I rode it for two weeks with the used HES and ordered a new one, which I installed yesterday, so...I think the final diagnosis was a HES with a faulty pickup that worked intermittently AND a bad coil.
The bike runs okay, it could use some tuning. I will search here for a tuning thread but if any of you have suggestions for a good one, thanks in advance.
Also the turn signals aren't working.
But it's a runner! I bought it because my k1200rs has me sitting too far forward and I start to hurt after an hour on the bike, but my gosh that bike absolutely owns the "flying" part of the flying brick name. So the R is my experiment in riding position and so far I feel much better after a ride on this bike.
Thanks for all the help, any other suggestions are welcomed.
