Made in India, the 310RR OR RR310?

After a few years of speculation, it seems BMW is finally ready to release a fully-faired sportbike based on the G310 platform. Check out the teaser here, from BMW Motorrad India (we aren’t able to embed it). It sure looks like that means we’re seeing the new bike in the next month or so.

The video consists of a sportbike, and an admonition to clear our calendars for July 15; elsewhere, BMW has teased an image that looks an awful lot like the taillight of a TVS Apache RR310.That’s almost certainly a hint that we’re about to see a BMW motorcycle based on that same platform, since TVS is the original manufacturer of BMW’s 310 series machine. With room in its lineup for a small-cc sportbike (showrooms around the world are crying for affordable, fuel-efficient motorcycles), no doubt BMW sees an opportunity to grab some market share from Japan.

It’s surprising it has taken this long. While the G310 R and G310 GS have been in BMW’s lineup for a few years now, there’s no sportbike in this series; TVS has instead manufactured such a machine and sold it under its own name. If we’re reading the signs right, BMW will now take that machine and slap on a coat of red, white and blue paint, to sell under its own branding.

Should be interesting.

Its about time. Honda, Yamaha, and Kawasaki have been selling droves of this type of motorcycle. Makes for a great entry into the marque.

Regarding..."BMW will now take that machine and slap on a coat of red, white and blue paint"...perhaps they might choose black red, and yellow. :german
