Your BMW dealer has three BMW-branded motor oils for sale
5W-40 full synthetic for wet clutch bikes
15W-50 semi-synthetic for Oilheads, Hexheads, and Camheads
20W-50 Dino for Airheads
Clearly they will meet BMW requirements.
I haven't seen Dino oil at my dealer in years. Which is why I began to shop around for a more suitable oil.
That oil description plainly says that it is NOT for bikes with a catalytic converter. That would be our Oilheads. I don't know why they say that, but it's there.
Too much zinc, or especially phosphorus, may clog the little holes in the cat.
Besides reducing the exhaust flow, this will also cause increased internal heating.
