What makes a bike sexy?

A bike isn't sexy.

It is the person on the bike that is sexy.

Or (in my case) not sexy.

Is La Chica Vieja sexy?

I kinda think she is. :brow

OK, one more.... here :rocker

It's the freedom, the road less traveled and comraderie that is "sexy".

:beer :dance

That looks awesome. I think what makes my 1984 RT sexy is I would go to those same places with her. Did I say her?
RT stands for road and trail.

Sexy is always in the eye of the beholder.
IMO, it's not the bike.

One definition of the word "sexy" was given as "voluptuously sensual in appearance or behavior."

Ok, so now what is "sensual"? "Senses are the physiological methods of perception. The senses and their operation, classification, and theory are overlapping topics studied by a variety of fields, most notably neuroscience, cognitive psychology (or cognitive science), and philosophy of perception. "

So now the definition as I see it begins to take on meaning. A bike is "sexy" if it stimulates my senses. That happens with almost every bike I've ever owned and quite a few that I haven't.

You said Her.

You did. You did say, "Her," I saw you!
Why HER though?
What makes you say "her" rather than, "it"?

Did I miss the location info for the pics posted earlier?

Sorry for talking nautically. I have no idea, she is definitely a woman though. Female riders speak up, is this just a guy thing? How do you feel about your assembled collections of pieces of rubber, metal and plastic?

like the way that's going.

Now I do like the way that line of thought is going. If it's sensual, stimulating the senses. However, is it the bike, or where you go on the bike that delivers that stimulation...or both. Speed is definitely sensual, but the bike is only the method of delivering this stimulation, not the sense of speed itself.
Would I find a Honda Cub sexy if I rode it in Bali infront of a beach adorned with bikini clad beauties, or an MV sexy, if riding it in a supermarket parking lot in Dullsville, at 2 am when the store was closed?

Is what we find sexy, an extension of what we want people to believe we are, from the machine we are on? Is that it, or is there more to this?

I did, no one responded, so I moved on to my second favorite MOA forum activity, teasing Josh.

Perhaps we have a slow burner with considered responses. I do hope so, don't you?

Woo! Finally I'm ranked #2. :D

Honestly, the responses were slow, and it's sort of the natural progression of a discussion; you can get sidetracked. This happens even more frequently when I'm involved, methinks. A touch of ADD, perhaps?

Back on topic; I don't see objects as "sexy". I can say "that bike looks cool" or "the lines on that bike are perfect". I've never said "that bike is sexy". It's probably why I have problems naming my bikes, and never have. I still think my bikes have SOUL, however. I'll talk to them sometimes... but gender doesn't play a role. It's still an "IT"... just and "IT" with personality. I really have an attachment to my R80 - I trust it implicitly to take me anywhere and back, hold the road in all conditions, and in return I try to treat it well. :heart As for my GSPD, we've had some issues since the day I got it. It's going to take some work, but I think we'll make it.

mixed bag.

My Mille was a she, my GS is, it ,edging toward, he. My Mille was sexy, my ZX9s were not. My Futura was androgenous.
My Honda from earlier times were just heaps of scrap, although my first bike as a teen made me feel sexy for two years, until my mates got cars...with back seats.

It would be interesting to hear a female perspective on this. I'm hoping it's not a male need to control, pseudo domination, that leads us to call bikes she, otherwise I like to dominate shining red and silver Italian women that go fast and have room for two to sit on her, and has a horn.

lamble, the location of the photos were as follows.

La Chica Vieja in her humble abode, my garage.
La Chica Vieja in the North GA mountains @ the GA Mountain Rally
Rim of the Cooper Canyon on the road to Batopilas, MX
Handies Peak on the Alpine Loop in Colorado

Rapid_Roy (the stock car boy) (I love that song)

RT, road and trail, that's what I'm talkin' 'bout! :clap

The definitions of sexy including stimulating the senses makes sense to me in that all your senses are stimulated and used while riding. Sight, Sound, Smell, Feel, Taste. I remember and recall far more details from trips on the bike than trips taken in the cage.

I don't think the bike is sexy but I do refer to her as "her" and her name is "La Chica Veija", The Old Girl... she got that name during the trip to MX, in Batopilas. It just made sense. :buds

Why is she feminine? Who knows, I guess everyone else around my house is female why not my bike. Wife, 2 daughters, dog.

More like she's my mistress, I spend so much time with her. :lol :heart

In the eyes of the beholder

I rode my R90 to a one-shot evening class recently, with black leather riding jacket, full face ARAI, gloves, boots (and Levi's). As I swung into the parking lot, I passed by a group of young men and women standing outside on break. I passed by within a few feet of the group. Three very attractive women, tall, poised, sharp dressers all turned to eyeball me circling slowly in front of them (wrong parking lot). I'm an old guy, and I don't usually get looks like that any more, although I'm in excellent condition, and in ATGATT you probably couldn't tell if I were 20 or 80.

So I unconditionally attribute the "love beams" to the Beemer. Even though my heart rate rose significantly under the scrutiny of the beauties my good common sense reassures me that a brief fantasy, albeit one that I will entertain quite a while, is no cause for alarm. At least, that's what I tell my wife.

In short; this bike is a stunning beauty, and as sexy as I think I could handle.:groovy

Hmmm...

I saw a program once about what makes humans attractive. There were some definite reasons about balance of features, symmetry, stuff like that. Curves, lines. There are some definable physical reasons why we are attracted to someone or something. I think the things that attract guys to women, repeated in the lines and performance of a bike are what makes bikes sexy. Although my bike is sexy to me, it doesn't have pouty lips that I can recall. Wow, an image of Jennifer Garner just popped into my mind. Where was I... Umm...so there are some limitations. Maybe for gals, something about strength, ruggedness, full gear, strong lines and so on. I have to guess here...heh.

Is this too serious for this thread?

Anyone riding that gorgeous machine would immediately be 95% hotter in my book. Even old guys, Bob. :)

Wow I had one just like that. A '74 with an S fairing. For just a year. Then I left her for a '75 Silver Smoke R90S.

seriously okay

Pouty lips are a serious issue. Fitting pouty lips to a GS with a beaky would be serious too...seriously misguided.

There's no worry about taking a topic seriously.

Nah, you were #2 earlier this year too. :whistle

Oh man - that's just cold cold cold.

I felt a need to respond, more.

Actually, those words don't really hurt, at all. I feel more like an alternate #1. You know you've done/said something right when you meet someone up in Radisson, QC who voted for you and offers you a place to stay and buys you dinner. Talk about feeling like the king. I've had similar good responses from people I met at the rally who recognized me. Definitely a good experience. Anyhow, Gail's just feeling inferior because she didn't have the volition to run for president. :stick

Sorry, lamble. Back to the regular topic; can bikes be sexy or not?

I suppose bikes can be sexy in the same way that cars, boats, airplanes, etc can be sexy. In that perspective, there is only one piece of machinery that I find sexy --

Supermarine Spitfire Mk I-IV

spitfire.jpg

Just something about those elliptical wings and the slender fuselage.
