Well, we’ve seen press photos before that oozed ugly but when the bike was seen in the flesh not so much. Perhaps that will be the case here…we hope..

I had a Cushman. These new things look cool!
You can still buy a new one, they’re called Cushman II.
Not surprising the company that makes them now used to make those outdoor coin operated newspaper dispensers found on street corners. When the newspaper business slowed, it wasn’t much of a stretch to add wheels and a motor to a similar steel box and viola, a modern day Cushman!

I was going to say the same. When the Harley Pan America was announced I thought- “Hell NO that’s ugly” But it kind of grew on me after a while.
 
Styling aside, I see the new GSA as analogous to the original Hummer SUV.
It’s excessive in every way, but will appeal to a certain segment of the riding population. It expresses a unique “look at me” vibe and with its size and fully fueled weight is probably best limited to use as a touring bike.

I rode a new, fully optioned 1300 the other day and was impressed by the quiet smoothness of the engine at highway speeds. Overall, it was a nice machine but even the standard GS is bigger than I want or need at my age. I’m still waiting for a new mid sized shaft drive touring bike but not holding my breath. Maybe the Chinese will build an updated R80 someday …
 
No it isn’t a joke. Sadly Tonka and Lego got a hold of BMW’s design team, held them hostage and forced the board to make that abomination a reality…..🤣
Maybe in the flesh it isn’t as bad as it looks ….:whistle but I’m holding on to my 1200 for a few more years… YMMV
 
I see a lot of this is trying to either compete or match what other manufacturers are doing. It’s currently going wild in the ATV industry.
CAN-AM has just introduced a SXS (ATV) with technology to long to list….and- 245 horsepower!
Pretty sure you could run the Mint-400 and be competitive, right off the showroom floor.

I have a 93 R100GS/PD which has an 8.5 gal capacity fuel tank. I was interested to see that the fuel capacity for this GSA is "only" 7.9 gallons.
That’s one of the advantages of fuel injection; better mileage yielding the same or better range while packing less fuel weight and allowing smaller tanks—although there is certainly nothing small about the new GSA tank.

I wonder if that aluminum tank is coated inside in any way, or if the alloying has been updated since the brick K-bikes. With ethanol gas and time those K tanks will rot out right at the bottom seams...the "unpainted plastic tanks clad in painted panels" approach that Motorrad has used for decades now is a better one for long-term use IMO.

All that fuel high up there must make quite the annoying difference for handling between empty and full. That's 48 pounds of gas at full chooch right near the top of the motorcycle. I owned a Kawasaki Concours 1000 with a 7.5 gallon tank for a few short months and even though the whole bike weighed over 700 pounds, you could really feel the difference between empty and full. On a long day pulling out from a gas stop, that balance change might catch a tired rider unawares...
