Tank Bag Suggestions 1200RTW

Yes that is how a non-OCD mind might think.

Oh, so you've met engineers that aren't OCD? Properly focused, OCD can produce great works.........or, fears of scratches under padded vinyl.

Be at one with the force ...... if you want to be the Jedi

Actually yes I have at least none suffering OCD to my level :dunno But I do agree when focused and managed OCD folks can do some great things.

I recall one night on a trip we had rain late in the day and when we pulled into the hotel it was too nasty to clean up the bike (yes my bike gets a quick cleaning at the end of every day or every ride) so we put the covers on the bikes without removing even one bug. Later that night my buddy said (I bet you can hear the sound of that bug juice eating into your windshield can't you? HA .... dang he was right! :laugh

Do you mind if I call you Sheldon from now on?

Hanging from ropes for a living means I think about sharp edges all the time. It doesn't bother me on the ground much. A guy I used to work with had some pretty good OCPD, it made for some interesting personality traits. It got to the point where I just about strangled him a few times.

La la la...

I had BMW bags on my last two bikes and was really impressed with their strap / buckle systems. For my new RS I got a small SW Motech and really like it. My only concern is that if the tether line breaks, or the bag ring lock fails while touring, I wouldn't be able to refuel the bike. Has anyone had experience with an emergency removal? I do note that the tether line is steel.

P.S. I found this:

I have been using the Givi and no tether at all and for 30K miles it has worked like a champ so assume the same for the Motech. My riding buddies all use same tank lock bags and none have had any issues whatsoever.

That's a Lee question. I think he's posted a series of pics on the R1200RS forum

On the new style mount we have you can remove fasteners inside the bag and remove it from the mount if the tether comes undone.
Debbie had the tether come loose on the old style once on a trip. It was not easy to remove the bag.

The little metal ring came off of the plunger. This is the old style.

I was able to remove the nut that holds the plunger in place.

I'll have to have a close look at mine. I think it's black, which would be the newer type. As it is now, I don't tour with it, but then I don't need it when I have the other luggage on.

sounds like he has ocd so bad he has the sub-disorder, CDO, it must be in alpha order.:D:D

Hey ... now that is where I draw the line.

But hey there are some benefits to being this anal ... I usually never have trouble selling a bike or car. In fact usually have folks telling me "just let me know when you are ready to sell".

Something to look forward to, after the funeral.
