Starter, Squeals like a pig

My 97 R1100R has been making some unusual noises when I crank it up.
Seems to be more prevalent when starting it up cold or after it has ben sitting around for few days.
The starter motor makes a squealing sound(like a pig) as it spins the engine. Any thoughts on the actual problem, or fixes for the problem?

Pull the starter off and clean/lube all the bushings. This will help:

Thanks for the advice(s)!
I must plead ignorance as to whether or not it is
a belt or bushings.
Off the top though.....
-It does have the characteristic sound of a slipping belt
(loose auto power steering belt for instance).
-As for the Bushings...I looked in my mc book and have not
been sure as to where/what are the bushings but I have just
viewed the linked page and it seems to be an excellent resourse
Thanks Again!

The alternator belt usually only makes noise at 1,500RPM and over when there is a big drain on the electrical system (like just after starting). It usually goes away after a few minutes of operation.
The starter would ONLY make noise during cranking and for a second or two as it spins down after the engine starts. Mine used to do that but only when the temp was below about 40 degrees.

..and after it squeals like a pig, does an ugly old bubba say,You got a purty mouth?

Da da daa da daaaa....(the tune from Deliverance plays...)

jgr,
You are truly a SICK person.......I admire that in an individual. :clap :clap :clap :clap

The Deliverance scene you brought to mind was scary. :stick

As for your "comoonicate" signature....... "I can eat 50" Damn, I loved that movie.

One thing leads to another in the ferret mind..Hiya Mick!!

:) Yes , a pair of great movies!! :wave

My sister has been a veterinary assistant. She loves piglets. She calls then what I always thought was "wieners" which made sense;turns out it is actually"weaners". As part of her job description, she was a pig wanker.AND she still likes men!!

I think the wieners/weaners squeal too;but then,they are pigs...

Thanks for the opportunity for a little free association on your thread.

:drink :drink

Now about that noise...???
