R1200RS/R1250RS Wunderlich tube handlebar conversion questions --

mneblett

#32806
Hi all -- I've picked up a 2023 R1250RS with ~3K miles. I have Helibars risers installed, and I will be purchasing the Wunderlich tubular handlebar conversion. I test drove an R1250RS a month ago with Heilbar risers and a GS tubular handlebar, and it was close to perfect for me. It appears that the rise/width/pullback of the Wonderlich and OEM GS bars are similar.

My questions: Will I need (or want) Wunderlich's line extension to minimize hydraulic line stretching, given that I've also installed the Helibar risers? If you recommend extension, should I pick up line extensions for the clutch, the brake, or both?

Thanks!

Mark, what did you discover? I also have an R1250Rs that is a week old, and I want to add bar risers and/or the handlebar conversion. How tall are you, and what is your arm length? Have you also changed the windscreen?

Hi, Chris. I did install the line extensions, as at full lock they were under *just* a hair more tension than I desired. Alternatively stated, the hoses did just reach without the extensions, but I wanted a greater margin of safety.

I have changed the windshield, but primarily by moving on to a '23 R1250RT. :) Seriously, I did try one of those adjustable deflectors clamped to the top of the RS's windshield. It definitely helped, although of course it didn't result in full RT-like protection.

HTH!

Both of you can pm me for a ph # for more in-depth information . I have a 2023 with factory bar option and voight risers . No cable extensions needed .
Also installed Wunderlich bar kit on my friends 2022 RS . There are differences .

I have the factory tube bars on my 2024 RS. I installed the bar backs from Hornig along with the extensions. The extensions may not be needed but I did it for a warm and fuzzy that I know there will be no binding,

c10950: I have a set of helibar risers installed, but the reach is still too far. I have a set of tubular handlebars that will work, but I am having a lot of trouble locating handlebar clamps (other than the $174 per set BMW OEM clamps). The aftermarket clamps all seem to be for the 1250 GS bikes, which have different spacing than the 1250RS upper triple tree uses. What have you learned about a swap to tubular bars? Chris

Bill, did your bike come with the factory tube bars, or did you swap to the tubular bars yourself? If you did the swap yourself, what bar clamps did you use?

Chris, go ahead and edit your post #6 ... delete the phone # and Save. Just to cut back on the potential for spam and scams...
"PM" (from c10950) means Private Message, nobody else gets it but whom you intend.

The BMW tube bars were ordered with the bike as it was an option. It came with the sport bars. I had hoped for the same bars that are on the "R" bike. The sport bars are black and the R bike bars are Grey.
