Post Your 2025 Rally and Trip Pictures Here

Had a good meal at the Bonaparte Retreat. It used to be a Grist Mill and next to a lock on DesMoines River for River Boats.

Debbie told me she could hear a old biplane fly over. When I looked out I could see a old trainer with a radial engine. Turns out there's a grass strip and hanger across the river and a little downstream. He was doing touch and goes. We hoped in the car to see if we could get to the runway. We pulled up as he pulled into his hanger. He was a nice guy and showed us his toys.

He also had a Tri Pacer

Just finished loading the bikes... We roll out @ 6AM. We are staying at Stoney Fork Campground in Jefferson National Forrest tomorrow night and on to the Rally on Thursday...
Trying to decide if I want to wash the van & trailer.Loaded.jpg

Saab Sonnet I or II, I think a I. I learned to drive stick in a Sonnet III. Cool cars, early V4 with FWD.
They had transmission issues... They had a transmission that had a built in coast mode really funky set up. The gears could freewheel going downhill.
A guy that worked at the local Beck Arnley store had one he was always having issues with it.

Cool! Tks for sharing.

I don't remember the freewheeling bit in my dad's '74 Sonnet 3, but do remember that the clutch had issues. Never engaged in the same place twice. The steering in those was REALLY heavy, as well - FWD, no power assist, and not the best driving position (almost prone) to exert force on that tiny steering wheel.

I don't know. He did show me it had a V4.
My brain was getting overload on car and aircraft facts :)
I thought it was interesting, his house is in the same county but instead of driving the truck home he flew one of the planes home.
He has another hanger at his house.
The airstrip at Keosaugua is a municipal strip but he had the only hanger.
