Friedle

Now that you mention it, I don't think I ever have seen a used Kermit chair for sale. Friedle I think you may have just come up with the ultimate answer here for people who want to know if a Kermit is worth the price.

Yes, I use the leg extensions. And the beer holder as well.
Okay so you also have optional extras- NOW how much do have invested in a camp-chair?
I don't have that kind of budget. And my cheep-ass chair has so far proven to be quite bulletproof. The size and weight have not been a problem either.

I never thought I'd get such a heated response about an inquiry on sitting equipment. Yikes! I'm still poking around and I like this MaxxDaddy chair I've found on the internet, although the Kermit is in the running, too, so don't slap me.
The MaxxDaddy has a kickout for your feet, yes it's made of tubular steel but pretty heavy weight.
This would be a first buy so I'm thinking buy once.

I sure appreciate your input everyone but no fisticuffs, please! :hug

Cool.

Now the SO says "We need two". Somebody help me.

Ya know parts of this thread should be referenced anytime someone complains about the following:

American jobs moving overseas
disposable crap filing our landfills
we are running out of natural resources

and a whole lot more.

Sure you can buy 10 Wallyworld specials for each Kermit or other high quality chair but do you really think that is better?

Disposable crap has its place but when you can buy a quality, long lasting, made in the USA I am willing to pay a premium.

At the very least perhaps we should set up a "recycling station" at the rally so people who want to purchase stuff locally can then drop it off so it can be donated to someone who will continue to use it rather than becoming landfill.

I am willing to wager The local Boy Scouts troup would be all over this.

Rob, that is a very good idea. :thumb

Recycling is good, something I would think we'd be all over as an organization, especially at the big rallies. We should leave the site in a better condition than we found it.

Maybe that's something leftover from my scouting days.

I think that this is a terrific idea! It shouldn't be difficult at all to implement and Scouts could be a valuable and reliable choice.

(BTW, on the 'U.S. Only theme, where does that ATGATT stuff come from? I'm sure there is a thread somewhere about all this though. I would choose home grown wherever possible but it does have to be something that I can afford and has clear quality. A used BMW fine; a new HD...not likely. -Bob

Well, maybe not on our very own Flea Market but how about # 250069064942 over on e-Bay today? Check it out, it's goin' fast. ` And from a Wisconsin Badger seller.

Don't know the seller, just speculating here based on the "question" section at the link. Perhaps the seller has had a few too many of those famous Wisconsin snack foods....brats and beers.

Come to the MOA Rally in July and try the "Wisconsin Weight Watchers" program for yourself. :)

camp chairs

Some time ago, Outside magazine used to carry ads of an aluminum, lightweight sling type chair that weighed as much as a six pack? Does anyone know if these are still available?

Also, I wonder why some of the cheapie aluminum chairs are breaking up under some member butts? :laugh

In what, exactly?

I am curious as to what your favorite sit down equipment is when you are lounging in front of your tent at a rally. Assuming you sit down (and don't fall down)!

Show me what ya got and where ya got it.

Cool.

Get the Kermit & the extensions :deal It will outlast your Helmet, Jacket, Boots, Riding Pants & Gloves! Now that stuff is expensive :buds

My buddy broke 3 of these at 3 different rallies. Would go to a rally and a couple hours later it would be broken and get it replaced at no charge. After the 3rd one, he just asked for his money back.

My R.E.I. aluminum frame chair is not a cheapy from Wal*Mart. It's made of heavy aluminum and the chair has a 250 pound weight limit, much more than I weigh. And the chair itself weighs the same as a Kermit chair, maybe a little less. I don't mind the longer package--it fits across the back of the bike and is not much longer than my BMW duffle bag.

Looks like the "cheapie aluminum chairs" aren't 'cheap' anymore.

Check out these guys . Some nice stuff.

camp chairs

Thanks, Slash. There's some nice ones in there, and I'll keep that page in my oiler binder. For me, the main issue is the dimensions of the folded down package; I'm less concerned about weight, since I tour solo. I haven't had to get one yet because the regional rallies I go to usually have some place to park a derriere, and it allows me to pack all my kit in my System cases without having to strap anything up top.

Kermit Tester

I used to use the aluminum folding chairs in my booth. I was throwing one broken one away e very weekend and the land-fill thing became an issue for me.

About 10 years ago I purchased 4 Kermit chairs. Now, I have a test case because every weekend several hundred people of all shapes and sizes sit in my chairs, but in that 10 years, I have only had 2 screws shear. The chairs get a whole bunch more use than the average. Kermit, and now the 'Kermit People', very expediently fixed those chairs and checked out the others for wear issues at no cost to me.

I have never had the fabric tear or disinegrate. I use the extension legs and the drink holders. When I'm not vending I still take a chair with me. It's especially handy at outdoor concerts, fireworks and picnics.

Yes, they are now made in Mexico. Yes, it would be nice if they were made in the states, but I can assure you NONE of those folding chairs are either. I have no interest in the Kermit Chair Company, financial or otherwise. I use things hard and appreciate a quality product that can stand up to any use.

Kermit it is

Ok, after careful consideration and taking into account I like to buy things once, I'm going with the Kermit. (YES, with the extensions and beer holder and my username on it in case I forget who I am!

:bottle :nyah
