New tires!

I had new tires installed yesterday on my 2014 R1200RT. I found a place in St. Petersburg, Florida, called 8 Ball Motorcycle Tires. They only do motorcycle tires. They were fast and inexpensive compared to the dealers. They also had all the major brands and styles in stock. Unfortunately, when I pulled out of the parking lot the rear tire got away from me and I dropped the bike. When the new tire hit the hot asphalt, it was like hitting an ice patch. Fortunately, there was no damage to either me or the bike. My ego took a big hit but only for a second. I know new tires can be slick, but I wasn't expecting that. I consider it a lesson learned.

Always be careful to scrub in new tires. Lesson learned the hard way but glad no damage to you or the bike.

I've seen videos and heard enough others who have gone down with brand new unscrubbed in tires to always be very careful putting on the first 5 or 10 miles, and leaning the bike over through turns the first few times. You came out well if your pride was all that was hurt. I appreciate the reminder of the risks, especially if it saves another from the same misfortune.

El Huarache Veloz? Was it any good (in case I make my way there for tires)?
Not sure of the name but they were directly across the street for 8 Ball Tires. I had lunch there with a friend and they were outstanding. I used to travel extensively throughout north America for work and would look for the best authentic Mexican restaurant in each town. I guess that makes me a self-proclaimed expert. The food was good, and the price was right. They restaurant wasn't much to look at though!
