new owner - lots of questions...

As new(er) owner of a 1977 R75/7 (other bike is a R1150RT) I too "cringed" when shifting (especially downshifts).

I thought about doing and input spline lube but decided in the end to pull the transmission so I could see what all the clutch components looked like. The clutch was down to .192 and appeared to be original (strange material - lots of black dust). I replaced all the parts and also did the spline lube. The bike now shifts 'cringe free'.

I would recommend doing a spline lube (just split the transimission) and it this doesn't work then remove the trans and inspect the clutch. These really are not difficult or time consuming jobs. I did it in 3 hours while going through the learning curve. Good Luck
