My First Airhead

I'm a little confused by this "highest serial number" business.

Production numbers were only roughly kept; the total number of Windjammers manufactured is not really known. I mean, com'on.... it was 1970-something and we were all in our twenties and early thrities. Lots of folks have nothing positive to say about the Windjammer, but at the time, it was the best there was to offer.

Troy, if your lowers are laminated fiberglass.... they're historical.

fxay.... drop Craig an email. He'd love to hear of your lowers.

Yes the lowers are laminated figerglass, the serial number is 2940 and is stamped on a plate on the fairing.

Imo1131, I guess I found it kind of funny that Mr. Vetter's website says he kept a detailed journal of all the things that went on in the factory back in those days, but that they lost track of S/N's and how many units got built. I have no lowers, just the fairing sitting on a shelf. I do have a rather ugly front fender that I believe came with the fairing. It has a big, built-in mud flap sort of flange at the bottom, and a wide gold stripe the same color as the stripe on the fairing. Fortunately, the PO's saved the original fender, which also came to me with the bike. I guess I should snap a picture of the fairing S/N plate and send it in. It sounds like I have the high number for the original Windjammer. I know that's not worth anything, but I'm going to tell my buddy who sold me the bike that I found out the fairing is unique and is worth $6,000. That ought to give him something to talk about. Don't anybody let him know, okay?

Pacsman, thanks for the info. It sounds like those lowers you have are something to hang onto for sure. All of these fairing parts could be worth something someday. Good luck with your build!

Ray

Edit: FWIW, I did finally join the Vetter forum and sent in a picture of my S/N plate:
