Buddy's new R1200R has been in shop a couple weeks now for its 600 mile check.

A steering bearing adjustment check is required and BMW can't supply the required special tool to dealers.

So assume it actually needs a steering head bearing adjustment, not just the routine 600 mile steering head bearing check as stated? Is he getting bar oscillation or it just can't pass the "fall" test? Must be really out of whack in only 600 miles to cause a "No Ride" situation. There are too many of these stories regarding BMW's lack of service coverage on a timely manner. Hope they get their s_it together sometime soon.

A shame they couldn't design the part around the existing headset tool for the Thumper 650's. "Hey, we already have a tool that does that". :banghead

:scratch In this day and age of rapid prototype/laser measurement/5 axis machining centers, this makes me wonder if someone ain't-a-fibbin'.

Something doesn't sound right. I just had my 2015 R1200R in for its 750 mile Running-in check and service report indicates no problem in any of the areas.

Of course, if it passed the "fork preload test" I guess there would be no need for the tool.

That's too bad. High hopes for the new Roadster...which seem to have same forks setup on the now arriving RS.
Maybe the tool is in the crate with first RS:banghead

Wouldn't say no to a Nine T either

I talked to the local BMW dealer about this special tool for steering head bearing checking. He can not get this special tool from BMW either so he uses a metric socket and is able to check and set the parameters just fine. He said the special tool might make the job a little easier but with the appropriate sized metric socket he is able to complete the job with the same degree of accuracy.
