Light bulb changing- 2009 r1200rt

The RT’s are notoriously bad for changing out bulbs. You have to come in through the back with your hand and feel your way around, and memorize the schematic of the bulb housing group. I had an ‘05 RT my wife had smaller hands and was able to do it easier. Good luck.

How do I change the light bulbs on a 2009 R1200RT police edition?
Have not worked on RTP as I have a lowly RT.:D To give more visual to the bulbs I've taken windscreen off, 3 bolts, take 2 black bolts from top of dash, pop mirrors off, take out the 2 bolts exposed there and 1 more holding bottom of dash. Do the same other side. Now dash is free to roll back. Can easily access city lights also. IMO gives more room and easier to see. Not a long process but again....IMO.

Try using the Tag Cloud down on the lower left of the page and enter headlight bulb. That search revels lots of threads on this confusing, cramped chore.

I will add a bit to your title for easier searching down the road.

Good luck.

Your dealer can get you a civilian version owners manual --- it's explained in there. Also dealers can sell you a Service DVD ... contains all the procedures the dealer techs use.

Finally, understand that ease of DIY shade tree maintenance is nowhere to be found in German vehicle design parameters. If you won't take it to a professional, you're going to have to get good and own some tools.

I apologize in advance for this answer.

But "very carefully."

Second that! I went to change my 2006 RT headlight bulb and the wire connector that plugs into the prongs on the back of the bulb simply crumbled. I wasn't even being rough with it! Pull straight? Pull carefully!
