K75 Ignition Switch '92-'95

I can't remember how to separate the electrical switch section from the key lock without breaking the housing. Did that years ago and don't need to do that again. I need to clean or replace the electrical contacts. It very randomly cuts out by itself and cleaning or replacing may be a lot cheaper than medical bills.image.jpg

Ignition switch

Thanks a lot roncooper. Good one to save w/ pics.
And thanks to eilenberger, excellent !

Some of the last repair, years ago, is coming back to me now. I did break the (black) key section where the electrical compartment attaches.
I don't remember the temperature at the time, but I remember that next time I should heat (warm) the plastic before working on it. It was old and not very pliable. Sorta like me.

I think that now it is not important to remember how I fixed things. It is important to remember how I broke things.

Same problem with random ignition cutout occurred about 10 months later (1/15/17), a couple of days ago, since last cleaning.

This time I disassembled the switch lower contact compartment and elongated the two longer springs and bent the tangs on both brass pieces that looked like they would make better contact by doing so. I still cleaned the center contact again as well as any contact surfaces.

I don't know if any of this, other than cleaning, helped or hindered, but the switch works 100% of the time so far, as well as when you wiggle the key on full ignition, there seems to be less play and a more positive feel to that position.

As usual, time will tell.
