How many RPM for cruising?

Hello All!

I have a 2002 R1150RT and have read the manual but have not really come up with an answer. What range does it want to cruise in? I have been shooting for between 3,000 and 4,000; just feels and sounds right.

Cruising RPMs...

Hi... I've got a 2003 1150RT and it seems to like right around 3000 for smooth. But it's not broken in yet (0nly 1500 miles on it). It begins to get buzzy in the handlebars higher than that, though I've had it wound out a couple of times on the Tpk (NOT in 6th or 5th gear though!... Yet!).

I have a 2000 R1100R. I keep the RPMs over 4,000 unless I'm on a flat, straight highway. Thats what I would recommend if you don't have dual spark, 2004 models only, I believe. At 4,000 + RPMs you can twist and go without hesitation.

Brad, if it feels and sounds right to you, then it must be right!

I would have to say ABOVE 2800 rpms...I never cruise below 3000, and in sixth gear usually around 4000 on the highway.

Don't consider an upper limit, just don't lug it on the lower end. IMHO, of course

crusing rpm

when my 2000 r1150gs was new, i felt i needed at least 3800 rpm or about 75 mph? indicated to run smoothly in 6th,minimum. now at 24000mi and doing a carefull sync. with mercury sticks,it feels clean around 3400rpm w/ tailwind.
