GTL Starting Problem

I currently own a 2012 BMW K1600 GTL (VIN# WB1061205CZZ21886) and have a problem which I think is related to the right handle bar switch and I am hoping for some advice on possible causes. My local New Orleans dealer will not work on the bike since it is over 10 years old.

Weekend before last I took a 50 mile ride to a friends house for a couple hours with the bike sitting in the sun with temperature in the upper 90's. When I went to leave, I pressed the starter button and nothing happened. The battery was fully charged (and less than 6 months old) and all the dash instruments lit up. The lock button feature for saddle bags and trunk worked. I tried different things to start the bike including putting the bike in neutral, but to no avail. I ended up having to trailer the bike home. Once home I again tried to start the bike and nothing. The next morning, the bike started up with no problems. I rode it a number of times during the week with no starting problems. From the K1600 forum I found that there were posts indicating the problem could be related to the right handle bar switch or the starter relay.

As a test this morning, I started the bike and put it in the sun for a couple of hours, again with temperatures in the mid 90's. The same thing happened, it would not start. All instruments lit up, but today the saddle bag-trunk button would not work. I have the MotoScan app to check for error codes and none came up.

Since the nearest dealership that would work on my bike is 4-500 miles away, I was hoping that someone could give me some ideas on what the problem could be. Thank you for any suggestions that you can provide me with.

Known problem with the early model years. The ribbon type connections separate when the plastic expands. Baggie of ice on the area will work in a pinch.
I don’t recall if they had a recall or replacement parts that fix the problem
