General Warning Light_2006 R1200 GSA

Mike here (again) in Minnesota, enjoying as much Fall riding as possible!

My general warning light of my 2006 R1200GSA (0397) comes on steady red after ~20 - 40 miles of riding, however, none of the symbols (battery, engine, oil) appear with the steady red light.

If I'm reading the correct Rider's Manual correctly, the only condition for a steady red is 'insufficient battery charge current'?

If I happen to make a stop and shut off the bike, the symbol may or may not reappear for the remainder of the ride, independent of distance covered.

Thank you for reading!

Hi Mike - and the battery seems fine after all this?

Have you reach out to anyone in the local MN club to use a GS911 to see if there are any additional codes? If you're close to Rochester you're welcome to use mine...

drneo66,

Wow, thank you for gracious offer and I apologize for delay in response!

Additional info:

1. I did replace the battery as the condition/age of the original was unknown to me--however, the original battery did appear to be charging (1.25V Battery Tender) and operating normally.

2. First ride after new battery, Gen Warning light came on after 10 miles, completed 40 miles with no noticeable change in performance.

3. Second ride after new battery, Gen Warning light came on after 0.2 miles, completed 20 miles with no noticeable change in performance.

4. After # 2 & #3, I performed the charging test outlined in Chapter 8 of the Clymer manual: measuring 13.8 VDC at the battery (non-running) after achieving operating temperature; measuring 14.2 VDC at the battery with engine running.

The Clymer manual indicates readings should be 12.8 - 13.0 VDC and suggests alternator / voltage regulator issue...

Mike here, I would like to acquire my own GS911. What recommendations might you have ? I see there are USB and WiFi versions...?

PS--I just happened to be in Rochester on 1 Mar 2024, however, on 4 wheels instead of 2!
