The BMWMOAL Second Saturday R-2-E will lead us northeast from Huntsville to the Copper Top Restaurant in Stevenson, AL via many enjoyable, paved and curvy roads. We pre-rode this updated route on a recent cold morning, and it was well received. Jackson County’s CR-39 offers a tasty dozen of tight switchback turns riding downhill off the Skyline plateau into the Tennessee River valley. The food is tasty and a good value when we ordered from their weekend lunch menu. It’s the usual assortment of burgers, chicken, catfish, & BBQ selections. Attaching my GPS route information for your review, BUT the MOA won’t let me actually share a gpx formatted file. You’ll need to download the “PDF” file and change the format back to “gpx” on your PC before importing into Basecamp. Hope the weather will cooperate sufficiently for the final R-2-E of 2024.

Please email HSV-Phil if you plan to meet us there! Hope to arrive with some riders in tow @1100.

The AlaBeemers enjoyed a pleasant 2nd Saturday Ride-2-Eat to the northeast in the community of Stevenson. Phil, Karen, Tony & Alan rode my 80 mile route from HSV along mostly 2-lane roads with some genuine twisty roads climbing up from Paint Rock (640′) toward Skyline (1,725′) before coming back down the very steep CR-39 over Crow Mountain [ N34° 50.104′ W85° 58.378′ ] back into the Tennessee River valley (625′). Tom and Pam were the first to arrive on their Hannigan K-16 Trike; lastly the BHM team of Vance, Mari, Jim, and Michael arrived via their circuitous route up through the Fort Payne woodlands.

Think everyone was pleased with their lunch selections, and we talked about next year’s possible destinations. Since I inherited the Ride’s Chair, I’ve been involved in 38 months worth of planning and executing MOAL dining excursions. For convenience sake and by general popularity, there have been some duplicates. We’re taking next month off for a winter break, but February we’ll start the season off at Bama Buck’s Steakhouse & Wild Game Restaurant in Sardis City (near Boaz) [last visited in Nov ′21; https://www.bama-bucks.com/ ]. As usual, we hope to arrive early before the big lunch time rush - around 11:00. Do let me know if you’ll be passing through the area: president@bmwmoal.org

Ciao, HSV-Phil & HSV-Karen
