Hi,
not sure if this is the correct thread but I am looking for a new comfortable seat for my 2018 GSA 1200 I am currently using the original and only have 10k on the bike and the seat has not gotten any more comfortable. I usually ride about a 200 mile loop when I ride and I am looking for something that is a bit easier on my butt. I am hoping that I can get a recommendation from one of you. I have been reading a bit about Sergant seat. any help will be appreciated. thank you

FWIW, I have a Sargent front seat on my 2018 GS and find it more comfortable than the stock seat, and I generally do more than 200 miles at a stretch. It’s not as comfortable as the Russell saddles I’ve had on other bikes but is a good compromise that adds more road comfort while not interfering with off-road riding.

Best,
DeVern

I usually just take a Tylenol 1/2 hour before riding and another about every 4 hours during. Been doing that for years and have only had to replace the seat on one bike!

2018 GSA as well with a Sargent seat and either Beadrider beads or the Wildass cushion.
I believe in changing up the seating surface on very long rides 10+ hours.... YMMV

I have the Air Hawk seat cushion and the Alaska Sheepskin seat cover. I find myself using the Alaskan Sheepskin almost all the time now with the stock seat (2019 GS) and have no issues with all day riding.

I’ve had BMS, bill Meyers saddles on my last three bikes, Bill passed a couple years ago and his saddle makers have taken over the business. Located in Ventura ca
1-805-212-9582 they work for me

Seat Concepts, available in standard, low and high. The standard will be same height as a GS seat but 1/2" lower than a GSA stock seat. It's a little wider and more flat side to side rather than crowned, and more importantly it addresses the forward downhill slope. "On this model, we built up the front of the seat, but dished out the rear slightly to level out the angle of the rider platform, and reduce the slope-into-tank feeling of the stock seat."
Their standard foam is a little firmer than stock (about like Sargent uses) but upon request will use even firmer foam (which is what I prefer). You have the option of purchasing the complete front seat for $400, rather than both. For an additional $100 they will also provide the cover and foam for your stock rear seat in the matching vinyl which you can fit over the stock pan if you want both seats to match.

I tried Seat Concepts seat first. At the 2 hour mark, I was hurting. Then tried Sargent, same result. On my trip out to Springfield for the National during a heat wave, it took two weeks for my ass to recover (left my Airhawk in garage, Duh.) Just received a
Russell Day Long solo seat for my 2017 GSA and trying to break it in before heading to Redmond. RDL is wider and a little higher, but feels good so far. I will bring along my Wild Ass and may grab a Beadrider just to mix it up a little. We will see what happens.

I have “saddle man” seats off of my 2023 GS you can have for the cost of freight, if it fits your bike. I found it much better than stock. I recently bought a 1300 GS so it is of no use to me.

I have a Corbin on my K100RT and have twice completed a little more than 1300 km in a single day with no butt issues. (It is higher than stock.)

My R1100RT came with a Corbin but it was not comfortable for my skinny butt and too wide for my short legs when coming to a stop. That Corbin was replaced by a used Russell Day Long in 2010. A little tall and very comfortable on long rides (much greater than 200 miles).

Around 2020 the RDL became less comfortable so I picked up a slightly used Sargent and immediately took it on a 4000+ km ride. For me, the whole ride was torture. Upon returning home I had the RDL rebuilt and its previous comfort returned.

As I am a couple of years shy of 80 and my riding of late as not been as far ranging (and my inseam seems to be getting shorter), I am considering sending the stock seat out next winter for a rebuild.

One thing I have done on my Oilhead while touring, at gas stops, has been to alternate the seat position between the middle and high positions. This also seems to prevent my body from becoming fatigued.

The Russell, despite the additional height, is my recommendation for riding comfort.

This changes everything :shoulder, elbow and wrist position; hip and knee position too.
