image.jpgIMG_0202.jpegIMG_0206.jpegAfter owning many BMW’s I finally found an RS air head that needed some TLC. I’m in the process of cleaning 20 years of road grime off of it. I don’t understand how this could happen! But anyway, it is what it is. This 1983 is in a neutral state, I could ride it, but I prefer clean safe bikes. So I’m installing new fork springs, rebuilding the brakes, new shocks, and powder coated wheels, and new tires. So far on my rider refurbish, I have got the tire pump painted, tool kit cleaned, and wheels off to be powder coated.

Welcome from central Florida. Looks like a great project and I hope you enjoy that nice ride when it is completed.

I had an '83. Watch for valve recession...

Congratulations. I still miss mine, 28 years after I sold it.

Watch for valve recession...

Oak had a different term for the period 1981-1984 valve issues...it was valve face plastic deformation.

Oak was as usual correct. Valve recession is when the valve seats wear and the valves recede into the seat. Plastic deformation in this case was the seats not wearing but also not transferring head from the valve heads very well, leading the valves to deform or begin to resemble a mild tulip shape.
