### BREMBO Calipers to Replace My Leaking Hayes Calipers '20 RT ###

I just made my service appointment to have my leaking Hayes calipers replaced with the BMW factory recall replacement BREMBO calipers. These will be my fifth set on my 2020 R1250RT in ten months I've owned the bike.

This should fix the problem. I empathize with your frustration, and encourage you and others to not let this experience taint your opinion of the brand. Despite the occasional frustrating recalls and shortcomings of some models, when these issues are sorted, the riding pleasure derived thereafter is exquisite.

It always kills me when a manufacturer takes a perfectly good working part and F's it up to save a nickel. Any of us would pay another $20 to not have to deal with it. I doubt the money they attempted to save was that much per motorcycle. BMW could have raised the price and nobody would have bitched, well not much anyway! Think of how much this cost them in the long run. Guys having multiple caliper change outs, and the bad press on it.

I really like the bike but returning to the dealer all the time has soured this experience, unfortunately.

BMW certainly tries to hold suppliers accountable. In 1993 and 1994 Getrag ate the cost of a lot of transmission factory rebuilds on Oilheads. I am pretty sure Hayes is eating a whole bunch of cost with this caliper fiasco.

And then there was the Showa shock fiasco during the launch of the new R1200 Wethead in 2014. Like Getrag, Showa is a well established supplier.

Issues with suppliers is nothing new. I can remember plenty of issues with supplied parts on Airheads. Motometer speedometer. Bosch diode boards. Warped brake disks. Bing carburetors. Bosch starter. Leaking saddle bags. Saddle bags that fall off. I don't recall any recalls for any of these things. We simply dealt with them.
