BMW LED Brake Light

Aww what a rip! I must have convinced myself I saw it. I swear I did!

You still may be able to do it - it depends on your bike and if there is a second connector on the wire harness that goes to the back lights.

I have an '08 with Nov 07 construction - this did NOT have the additional connector.

If you have the additonal connector it will go.

I'm bummed because i wanted the additional light as an oem plug in - oh well

Lots of suggestions!

Thanks guys! There are lots of suggestions! I still like the idea of the BMW light for ease of installation but I also like those P3 lights. I will have to think about it for a bit.

There is a model for the R1200RT which includes the unit plus a wiring harness that is specifically made to plug in to the existing wiring.
One connection goes to the on board accessory jack for power and then a wire to the existing single brake/tail light bulb socket.
The only 12 series that they haven't provided for is the older connector on the accessory jack on some of the early R12 bikes. In that case, you could just splice in or convert over to the new socket style. Or convert the wiring kit over to the old style accessory socket style. Or cut the connector off the wiring kit and just splice into the accessory wiring.
The point is that the unit is designed to get it's power from the accessory socket. And get it's signal from the dual function wire going to the brake/tail light bulb.

That is the one i got and as i posted earlier the bike did not have the extra connection in the stock harness.

If you have a part number, i would like to follow up and see if it is the same number as the one offered by Max.

Thanks

I added the Lite Blazer to my R12RT. It was about $75 shipped. It is inexpensive and looks and works great. It has 2 power wires, one for the tail light and one for the brake light. The R12RT has only ONE lead however. I hooked both wires to the one lead and it works fine. Nicely lit for a tail light and bright as fire and flashes for a brake light.

What extra connection on the bike? The only connections on the bike are to the accessory jack socket and it's plug and to the tail light circuit at the tail light socket. Every bike (such as this '08) has an accessory jack with a plug plugged into it and a tail light socket.

The link to the one at Max is not the one you need. But there is one for your bike...looks the same but is electrically different to work with your single wire tail/brake bulb circuit.

Noted about the rear accesory socket - fully aware of it.

The kit that i checked out had a harness i needed to insert between the rear lights and the main harness, i did not have one of the other connections.

If you have a part number i will follow up.

Thanks

Oh ok. I'll look at both kits and see what you say and get back here.

I have the two wire kits in front of me. The only difference between them, the A kit and the B kit is the length of the wire that goes to the accessory jack. They both have the other connection that goes to the brake wire spade connector on the back of the bulb socket. The wire for the K12GT (new), GS, and ADV (new) is the longer one...the B wire set.
If you don't have the incandescent bulb tail light, then as you say there is no way to plug it into the LED tail light assembly on the newest bikes. I would think that you would have to splice wire in the older add on LED unit to have this accessory.

They fit

Since I'm a total looser when it comes to all things electric,:stick I had my dealer install the BMW accessory rear LED light on mt 12RT. They work fine, but maybe a set of P3s or hyper-lites would serve you better if you do your own work. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for checking - you''re right - if i wanted to splice i could have put it on.

I just wanted a direct plug and play

Might be possible now. I just read this attributed to a BMW Bulletin on Adv Forum...should have seen it at the dealership, don't know why not...but here it is:

"61 00 0 445 579 Harness A for R1200RT 8/2006 and later
61 00 0 445 580 Harness B for K1200GT, R1200GS/Adventure 8/2006 throug 2007
65 14 2 158 018 Harness C for R1200GS/Adventure 2008 to present w/LED tail light
65 14 2 158 019 Harness D for R1200RT 2005 to 08/2006
65 14 2 158 020 Harness E for R1200GS/Adventure 2005 to 8/2006 "

This still looks a little hokey to me...the A harness being for R12RT in this latest bulletin from BMW. I look for a correction on this. I would guess that C is the correct one for any LED tail/brake light bike. ??

Jack - thanks - interest is now peaked.

The lateness of the addition for the RT makes sense due to the problems encountered that it would work on some bikes and not others.

I'll check.

125237,
I had the stealer install the aux. LED brake light on my scoot last month. It cost $125 plus labor. I asked him if it was something I could do. He said it was "tricky" but everything is so he'll get the buisness. Happy with the light, tho.
