Good Morning!
Pulled the front end apart on my newly acquired 82 R100RT. Replaced the fork seals as they seem to be weeping. Changed out the Metzler tire to an Avon Roadrider tires both front and back. Pulled the front bearings and washed them and repacked with Belray synthetic bearing grease.
Pulled the rear tire off to mount the new tire and to inspect the final drive splines, which appear to be good with some outer wear on the leading edges as the machine has over 105,000 kilometers. Cleaned the splines up and went into a box of items that were given to me when I bought the bike and I pulled a tube of Liqui Moly LM 47 Langzeitfett. Did some research and it is recommended for splines and bearings.
It seems the last owner may have used this Liqui Moly on the rear bearings and it also appears that the rollers on the bearings were being discolored from excessive heat build up.
Here is my question and concern:
1. Is this Liqui Moly suitable for wheel bearings?
2. If so, should I pull the front wheel clean the Belray grease from the bearings and replace it with Liqui Moly?
