'95 R1100GS Loose Handle Bar Controls

I have a '95 R11GS with 92k on it and the handle bar controls are loose. When I say loose, I mean they move very slightly, not spin around the handle bars loose. I do not have an owners manual and tried various screws to tighten it with no success. I know the airheads have a small grooved / pyramid shaped piece that must be in place to tighten but, not sure about the oilheads. I tried searching the microfiches with no success either. I notice the controls have a small tab on the underneath side which mates up with a similar tab attached to the handlebars and they appear loose (but can't imagine they are used to tighten the controls). Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance!

With all of the vast knowledge out here, I am surprised I have not received a response on this issue. The looseness of the controls is more of a nuisance than a safety issue as they both rotate very slightly (a few degreees). Again, any guidance is appreciate. Thanks!

I wish I could help you out. I just went out and looked at my 04 and I am now scratching my head as to how it would tighten or loosen.

Okay, let me give this a shot. If your 95 is the same as my 96 this is what I have found. On the throttle side look underneath the control housing and you will see a small Phillips screw by the turn signal button. Remove that screw and lift off the switch housing. You will see a screw that takes an Allen wrench to tighten. That is the screw that clamps the housing to the bars.

Okay, left side. You can remove the hand guard if you like but not really required. From in front of the bike look back past the hand guard, you will see a screw with an Allen head on top of the housing facing to the front of the bike. That is the screw that controls the left (clutch) side.

Are they loose to begin with? My controls have a very slight amount of give with the screws tight, almost like the slight give that you would get with a rubber mounting. I hope this helps.

Thanks Navydad for your information. I will check out your recommendations this evening. Maybe the slight give you refer to is what I am feeling as well. Mine feels more "metal-to-metal" vs. the rubber feeling you described. Anyway...thanks again and wish me luck!
