2005 R 1200 RT won't start after tip over

not lost til out of gas
hey everyone, I am helping a club member who is broke down on the road. here is what happened, he had a low speed tip over ( something about the servo being touchy ) the bike was on its right side, running, for over a minute, then died. when he righted the bike it wouldn't start. I am wondering if the computer shut off the fuel pump, and maybe there is an easy fix. thanks in advance, Chuck

Did the starter crank the engine at all? If the bike was down long enough, there is at least a possibility that the cylinder has collected some oil, which of course does not compress. Using the starter in this case could conceivably damage the starter, flywheel, connecting rod. Might be worth removing the lower spark plug and seeing what comes out. Probably not a likely scenario if the engine sounded like it is cranking normally.

Also possible the shock of the hit damaged the battery plates, so that there is now insufficient power for starting.

thanks I tried all that. it sounds normal to me, as it turns over. he is going to have it towed to the dealer tomorrow, I will post what the problem was when I find out.

hey everyone, Dave from Minnesota is back in the race. can't really say what happened, we were waiting for a tow and Dave says I am going to try to start it, just for fun. so he hits the button and it stumbles, hits it again, and it fires up to a slightly rough idle. he rides it around the block and when he gets back the bike is purring. there was a slight puff of blue smoke when it started. so I guess we just didn't try to restart it enough times. he told me when I got there( the day he dropped it ) he had been trying to start it and it wouldn't start, then tried to start it till I told him to stop, it just spun, no cough, no stumble, just spin. anyway thanks for your suggestions, Chuck
