2005 K-1200LT Center Stand Repair

A friend is selling his 2005 K-1200LT with 43 K--and it is in very good condition except for all the fluid has escaped from the hydraulic center stand. The asking price is reasonable considering the failed c/stand but I was wondering if anyone on the forum has had experience repairing this problem and the cost involved. If it's really expensive (like most BMW failures) then he may have to re-adjust the asking price. Thanks in advance for any help or input on this subject :) Leo

Give the dealer at Bentonville a call and ask what the repair would cost.

Actually, it is a very doable project if you have moderate wrenching skills and some good tools. You will have to remove the unit from the undercarriage, flush the old fluid and replace the o rings (be sure to use Viton rings), seal and put it back together. Certainly, It is a necessary repair that I would use to negotiate for a sales price discount with the current owner. The repair will take a bit of time, especially if you are not experienced with working LTs. No doubt the dealer will charge you a significant price for the repair. I have a pdf with instructions on the process. If you purchase the bike and decide to tackle the job please contact me, I'll be glad to send it to you.

Good Luck!

Thanks Bob--that was the info I was looking for. I should know something about the sale in the next few weeks and may need the PDF file to help with the repair. The actuator alone from Max shows $1333.00. I do have a Handy Lift so I may be able to repair it myself.

electric center stand repair

You won't need a lift. And if you go over to the BMWLT forum, you'll find plenty of help over there. I think some of the guys have now found a cheaper source for the motor & pump, plus intel on rebuilding same. Search for "Electro-hydraulic center stand - motor issue"

Center Stand (now someone else's worry)

Missed the sale of the bike--I had planned to help sell it, but actually would have probably purchased it myself because I have a soft spot for older BMW's and have never owned an LT, but have ridden them. Thanks to all for the information on the repair. This one was $4500 with 43K miles and very nice. Seemed like a great deal.
