Newbie here to the forum, so I hope this is the right spot. I'm looking for crash bars for my '13 1200RT. Illumi Works only makes them for the '14's and up. Touratech has them but don't appear too friendly to mount HW pegs, which I want as well. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help!

I can only suggest for you to take a look.
I bought a set , they look of good quality,
but i have not installed them yet, so i can't
comment on that. Is still to cold, my garage
is not heated. They also have bars for the rear,
to protect the panniers.

Good luck!

Wunderlich crash bars and hwy pegs

I have the Wunderlich bars on my '13 RT and I think they look great. However, I later purchased some hwy pegs from Illium and found them hard to properly locate on the bars. Mounted forward I couldn't get my legs around the fairing to rest my feet comfortably. Mounting them towards the rear put them precariously in a position to be the first point of contact with the pavement in a turn. Hence I ride without any hwy pegs.

Had a set of Wunderlichs on my 07RT. In summer of 09, the bar bent back transferring the force down to the mounting point on the oil 'pan' area and took out a quarter size chunk of engine case. Fortunately found a magician welder who TIG'd the hole closed. The bars went in the trash and were replaced by metal valve covers. Gary.

I understand you are against the crash bars! Just like many other things,
there are pro and cons for. They are not exactly"crash" bars! Are more like
protectors in case of a low speed slide or tip-over. Do you think you would
have been better of without?

I did not buy them as 'crash' bars but for a tip over. I was in first gear and barely moving. The fact I threw the bars away in favor of valve cover protectors gives the answer to your question. My bike tipped over several years later without damage beyond several scratches on the protective cover. I'm just relaying my experience, not telling anyone else what to buy. Gary.

In installed HEED brand on my '13 RT. Took about a month to ship from Poland. There is a thread on the site about them.

Thanks guys ... excellent info and I appreciate it. I ordered the Wunderlichs. I'll post back any feedback. Cheers!

I had highway pegs mounted to the vertical bar part of the Wunderlich engine guards. 0 MPH drop resulted in the bars flexing enough that the attachment bolt on the pegs poked a whole right through the valve cover. An expensive lesson learned. I removed the highways pegs after that.

Hey DMCG ... did you happen to use the Illium horizontal or the versatile pegs? I'm looking at the "versatile" just to, hopefully, satisfy the fit issues. Thanks for your feedback btw.
