1972 r75/5 rear drive

tinkerer

New member
I have a /5 with a 32/10 rear drive with a well worn spline
I have access to a 37/11 rear drive with very low miles
What would be the down side of using the 37/11
I am assuming the speedo would be off somewhat and the rpms would increase
Any pros
Thanks

Reduced gas mileage. Possible reduced top end speed. Quicker acceleration off the line.

Get the 37/11. If it is in good shape.
Use until you get the 32\10 refurbished. You can ride right thru repairs.
Rear Ends are hard to buy if non are for sale at a time when you need one.

You shouldn’t be that dissatisfied with the difference between a 3.2 (32/10) and the 3.36 (37/11).
Lower First gear (all gears) and lower 5500rpm highway speed (among other differences already mentioned). Lower speeding tickets too.

You never know exactly what you get when you buy a used item. Since you know what you have now, I'd send your unit out for a re-spline and reseal. Then it'll be like starting from scratch. Hansen's is known for their good work and you'll get yours back as good as new!
