1200 LT xenon headlight replacement

Anybody been unfortunate enough to have replaced the Xenon headlight on a 2006 LT?
I am curious if there is an easier way since it took me a couple of hours to get the plastic cover off the back off the headlight. Prior to 2006 the only thing holding the cover was a wire clip. Now BMW has added two hex head screws that are just about impossible to get to. I had to cut down a torx driver just to get it up under the fairing and then some contortions to actually get it onto the screw head and undo it. I am now trying to determine if it is the lamp or the ballast that failed. I have a friend with a LT I can try them on but I am not looking foward to disessembleing his light.

Any suggestions would be welcome.:banghead

You may need to remove the front trim panel, then take out the entire headlight pod. It's not as hard as it may seem.
