2012 R1200R manuals?

My last new BMW was a 1200GS in 2007. I just got a 2012 R1200R classic, which I think will be a great bike. But I found almost no maintenance information in the new owner's manual, nor is there a standard service/maintenance matrix. Looks like the new BMW motto is "take it to the dealer for all service and they will tell you what it needs and when. And bring lots of money." However, I'd like to continue to do my own basic maintenance at the 6K interval. Are there any recommended shop or repair manuals out there for newest R1200 bikes....other than the BMW CD? Thanks.

There is no hardcopy for the 2011, so there is probably none for the 2012. There is a cd for the 2011. If, like me, you prefer greasy pages to a computer, you're screwed. It's my one big gripe with BMW. I'm used to a good tech manual that explains first how a system works, then how to take it apart and put it together. The CDs seem to be nicely done, for the most part, but they're not books. The lack of a good tech manual for a bike as expensive as a BMW is inexcusable. I know there are those who disagree, and to each his own. My own would be a book.

R1200R 2011 Maintenance CD

Does anyone have any info on where to get the maintenance CD for the 2011 R1200R? I would be interested in getting one. When I bought my R1100SA brand new in 2001 I found a CD on ebay and I printed it out with my computer and put it in a binder. I dont need it often but it's much better than trying to use a laptop when servicing my bike.

I've owned 9 different BMW motorcycles over many years and dearly loved each and every one of them. But my 2011 R1200R is for me the best one of all, period!

Maint CD R1200

I got my CD from the dealer. $104 as I recall. It includes the 2011 R1200 bikes, including my RT. I've not needed it in earnest yet, but it was nice to get an overview of how the RT is put together, and what future maintenance might involve (so I can make sure I have the proper tools).

As I recall, you can print the pages for the proceedure you are doing, so you can get them all greasy, and then throw them away (or recycle), and print a fresh set for the next time. Not an issue for me. :)

I've found some good stuff in our tech forum (thanks to those who went to the considerable trouble to do it), and I found some really neat videos at the Max BMW dealer site. I was surprised that Max put that service info out there, given that service is, so I understand, a big money maker for a dealer. Kudos to them.

Haynes Service and Repair manual

I purchased the Haynes R1200 Twins service and repair manual (Haynes part number 4598). I got it at Amazon, it's about $30.

It's got general maintenance and tear downs of the 1200 twins '04 to '09 SOHC only. This is a good resource for maintenance until a better manual comes out.

I'm also looking for a repair manual for a 2012 RT. I have no problem with buying the BMW CD but would really like a paper manual also. How much is different from the 2009 RT models (Haynes manual) to the 2010-2012 RTs other than the valve arrangement?

Sometimes its handy to turn pages to look foward or backward when doing repairs. Also it's quite convenient to look a different procedures just for future reference without have to scroll up or down through a CD. But I like the other members suggestion to print from the CD if no other option is available.

What's the matter with the BMW CD?

i bought the $$$ cd. good for the rt. not so good for the r. have to go back and forth.

Randy, you can order the CD from may of the well known on line BMW dealer, or take a trip down to Indy and buy it at Falcone.

Do you happen to vist the VFW Post on Duncan Rd & Sagamore Pkwy? I do some contract work at the old Duncan Meterbox/Landis & Gyr plant and have noticed a R12R parked out front on occasion, not many around so thought maybe it might be you. Regardless drop me a pm about that GS you're looking to sell. Keith
