Is BMW no longer selling shop manuals on CD?

Someone posted on the Chain Gang site that BMW will no longer sell shop manuals on CD, effectively forcing use of their shops until aftermarket manuals come out a few years later. Is this true? If so, it really sucks. I find my BMW shop manuals much better than the the others.

I don't know about whether they are not planning CDs on new bikes, but the repair information is available on their new RSD DVDs which they send out to the dealers every quarter. It could be that that is the wave of the future and there just are no CD repair manuals being produced. Therefore not available...to anyone. The RSD DVDs have all the repair info, maintenance info, etc on them. Could be that that is what you would buy in the future.

Don't believe everything you read on forums.

If they think that will force me to use a shop, they are gravely mistaken.

Besides, these things are so basic, they're not much different from a lawn mower.

That's why I asked the question. To see if there was any truth to this. If BMW is sending tech information out on proprietary DVD's, then they don't have shop manual CD's anymore, which sounds plausible. Sort of like resetting the "service required" indicator on the new bikes Only they can reset this, as far as I know.

No, they won't force me to use the shop except for warranty stuff either. I must admit, I use the CD a lot. I would hate to work without it.

I have several BMW Repair Manuals on CD and frankly, they are a waste of money. Your much better off buying a good repair manual.

I have seen repair manuals like Clymer and Haynes have some totally wrong info. They also are not up to date. But good to read anyway.
I think the BMW repair manuals are somewhat indispensable for many if not all of the latest BMW models and a good check against what Clymer and Haynes says about torque values, etc.

I have those for my airheads and have found the same. Some of the torque values are way out as well.

I'm happy with the BMW service CD, but then all I use it for are a few specs.

There are repair manuals on DVDs for the latest R bikes, the K bikes, and a separate one for the GS. About $110 to $112. They are listed on the ETK under "Additional Information"-"Technical Literature"-"Repair Manuals". Ask your dealer.
