So, I'm farkling my new 2024 1250 GSA and looked at all the pannier/luggage options that I could find out there. I decided on the Bumot (I think it stands for Bulgaria Motors, or something like that) Defender Evo model (Bumot BMW Page).
They are made of thicker aluminum than the BMW / Tourtech panniers and, based on internet reviews and comments, are supposed to be waterproof which BMW/Tourtech apparently aren't.
They make a version to fit the BMW OEM racks (which I ordered) , and a version which comes with their own rack. They attach to the racks very easily, yet very securely and I think their attachment method is better than BMW's.
A neat feature is that the lids open outward, away from the bike, which I think is much better than the forward or rearward opening others I've seen and there is a great set of accessories available for them too, like liner bags, top bags for the lids of the panniers, carry handles, etc.
I also ordered the tool box and the top box, the former attaches to the BMW OEM rack and the later attaches via a mounting plate that you affix to the BMW rack. Again, the top box is very easy to attach and remove and yet it is very securely affixed to the bike.
I think they look nicer too (they come in plain aluminum, Black and "Frost Grey" which I ordered) and their customer service was very prompt and helpful. I ended up ordering direct from their plant in Bulgaria, as it was significantly cheaper (I suspect due to exchange rates) than ordering from their US distributor, but your mileage may vary.
I am very, very pleased with the product and would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for new panniers.
