2004 Hard starting dual spark R1150R

Well the good news is that as soon as I put in the new starter it fired right up. However as the starter is rotating the flywheel you can hear a “clack” at some point in the flywheel rotation. It didn’t do that in the past. The flywheel teeth are not obviously bad but maybe only a slight tooth distortion can cause this?

Here is a closeup pic of a fresh looking divot on the flywheel. My assumption is that this happened when the original starter disintegrated. I might check the runout although I don’t know what the spec is. Other than that I have no idea but I suspect if I don’t address it this starter will meet the same fate.
