Synthetic Oil

i've heard that Mobil 1, is an adequate, acceptable oil substitute for the wet head. Is the 15-50 an acceptable oil charistic for the 2018 RT WC.??

Welcome to BMW and the forum! The first thing I would check is the owner's manual. Oil is an oft discussed topic but it seems to me that's the best information you could get. Being a 2018, are there any warranty considerations here?

Any 5W40 JASO MA2 is acceptable. Other spec's not so much. What your buddy's uncle used for 27 years is meaningless. What I did in K bikes and Oilheads since 1986 is also meaningless.

The manual for the 2018 BMW R1200RT-LC calls for the following oil type and specs on page 182:

Engine oil, capacity Specification

BMW recommends:

SAE 5W-40, API SL/JASO MA2, Additives (for instance, molybdenum-based substances) are prohibited, because they would attack the coatings on engine components, BMW Motorrad recommends BMW Motorrad ADVANTEC Ultimate Oil.

Wallyworld does not sell this oil.

Wallyworld does sell Rotella T6 which meets those specs.

Fail. Oil thread season doesn't start until after Thanksgiving.

Speaking of which, the real oil thread here ought to be on which oil works best for the turkey fryer. Synthetic or organic? Temperature? Viscosity? Which special additives should I be looking for? Gas or electrically heated fryer?

All other turkey preps kneel before the sublime goodness of the fried turkey. Just sayin’...

Salivatingly yours,
DG

With apologies for the hijack, but since the OP’s question was fully answered in post #4...

Extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, fresh ground pepper and salt. Toss before serving.

And what PGlaves said in post #4

ps Thanksgiving is well passed up north of the border.
