BMW GROUP (USA) REPORTS OCTOBER SALES
11/03/2008

BMW Group US sales (BMW and MINI combined) down 5.0 percent in October.
Woodcliff Lake, NJ - November 3, 2008... The BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported October sales of 25,475 vehicles, a decrease of 5.0 percent over the 26,821 vehicles sold in October 2007. The BMW Group also reported a year-to-date sales volume of 261,802 vehicles, down 4.8 percent, compared to 275,094 vehicles in the same period of 2007.

BMW Brand Sales
Sales of BMW brand vehicles decreased 13.9 percent in October for a total of 20,203 compared to 23,451 reported in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date BMW brand sales were down 10.0 percent, to 215,836 vehicles compared to 239,788 vehicles sold in the same period in 2007.

"October sales show there is still life in the market, but it will take some hard work to achieve results,ÔÇØ said Jim OÔÇÖDonnell, President of BMW of North America, LLC. ÔÇ£At BMW, our attractive APR financing rates and BMWÔÇÖs four year or 50,000 miles free maintenance program have been well received by customers. We believe these are major reasons why the year-to-date sales continue to track better than the overall premium market.ÔÇØ

BMW Automobile Sales
BMWÔÇÖs automobile sales are down 15.1 percent in October to 16,195 versus 19,084 in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date sales also decreased 10.4 percent, to 169,183 automobiles compared to 188,844 in the same period of 2007.

BMW Sports Activity Vehicle Sales
Sales of BMW Sports Activity Vehicles decreased by 8.2 percent in October to 4,008 vehicles over the 4,367 sold last October. Year-to-date, sales of BMW Sports Activity Vehicles were down 8.4 percent, to 46,653 vehicles compared to the 50,944 sold in the first ten months of 2007.

MINI Brand Sales
MINI USA reported October sales of 5,272 automobiles, up 56.4 percent from the 3,370 cars sold in October 2007. Year-to-date, the division reported sales of 45,966 automobiles, an increase of 30.2 percent, compared to the 35,306 cars reported in the first ten months of 2007.

"We are looking at MINIÔÇÖs continued sales success as a barometer of changing consumer habits," said Jim McDowell, Vice-President of MINI USA. "The frenzy of a couple of months ago of dumping large vehicles has abated, but our persistent and ongoing demand seems to be saying small is the new big."

BMW Certified Pre-Owned
Sales of BMWÔÇÖs Certified Pre-Owned vehicles are down 0.8 percent, to 7,937 CPO vehicles versus 7,998 vehicles reported last October. Year-to-date, CPO sales are up 17.4 percent, to 85,081 over the 72,443 reported in the same period in 2007.

Record October sales for BMW, MINI and Motorrad.
11/03/2008

ÔÇ£October was a solid month,ÔÇØ said Lindsay Duffield, President & CEO, BMW Group Canada. ÔÇ£These results demonstrate that even in a challenging market, if you offer great products, like the new BMW 3 Series, the right leasing and financing programs and high resale values, sales can still be strong.ÔÇØ

BMW Brand: Sales up 23%

The BMW brand retailed 2,190 units, an increase of 23% over October 2007. Year-to-date, 19,666 BMWs have been retailed, a decrease of 1% compared to the same period last year.

Wonderings

Friday will be the last post of the Morning Reads before it goes on Sabbatical.

I need some time for research that regular posting of the Morning Reads does not allow. My need for this research time will become apparent in the very near future.

The Morning Reads is something of a brain dump of a cluttered mind wondering about many things. It is only a fraction of what I come across in life.

When it returns it will probably have a slightly different look. I have two questions that involve regular parts of the Morning Reads.

Birthdays: I put the birthday link at the beginning of the Morning Reads because I felt the members and their birthdays were important. Procedurally it takes time the way I do it now. The birthday cake or other graphic went the way of the buffalo because it just took to much time to come up with a new one every day. Would anyone be grossly offended if I dropped it all together when the Reads returns?

The End: This Easter egg has developed overtime from its original use. In the beginning it linked to something related to the word end. Now I find it a place to put a special thing. Special in most cases is defined as an oddity but in some cases it is an editorial comment or something else. Does anyone click on ÔÇô The End?

If you have any suggestions inclusion or exclusion when the Morning Reads returns in what ever form it takes please feel free to post comments or PM me. The editorial staff inside my helmet will take it under advisement and future Morning Reads will reflect how we deal with them.

THE END

I have enjoyed the Morning Reads. Thanks:clap :clap :clap

Birthdays are important but a link to the calendar will do just fine. The link is a reminder of the most important resource in our community.

I miss the WOOT reminder link. A couple of days ago WOOT had a mighty fine portable computer for under $300. It would fit in a tankbag.

The End? Very embarrassed to say I never noticed it was a link and I check Morning Reads every day. :blush

Thank you Mika for a fine way to start the way. Your dedication to excellence and persistence is much appreciated and applauded. :clap

Thanks Mika

don't need the cake anyway

Always a pleasurable read, John. Thanks for all your efforts and hard work!

You can keep the cake. Can't see the egg from here.

Thanks

Love the Morning Reads. Life without them will be like meat without mustard. I can do without the birthday cake and have usually already spent too much time checking out the other links by the time I get to the end. Who knows, with the morning reads suspended for a while I might get some work done. :D

I will miss the morning reads, Thanks for what you have done, and if it is easier drop the birthday link and anything else that makes it easier for you.

I'll look for your next project !
