'81 R100RT; Bean Can Problems.

I guess

Well, I guess at this time I am confused. I am thinking about an issue other than anything to do with engine drag and such. In my limited experience idle problems are covered by the stuff Snowbum has written about. I have experienced all of those issues except a sticky Timing Advance in my bean can. LOL, the only reason I changed my bean can after 190K miles was I thought it was cutting out and causing intermittent spark problems. Turns out the problem was not in the bean can but in a ground wire in the main harness. That is why I have the spare bean can on hand.

You seem to have something new happening I don't understand. Sorry I can't help more. St.

It is more than likely something inexplicable. I have 2 R90/6s, both of them had problems with a sticky advance unit. It was actually an easy fix. Most of the bikes I work on are old 4 cyl Asian. They've ALL been sitting behind the barn for 5 years and they ALL have intake leaks. Which is why this problem is so vexxing.

It seems your confident there's nothing amiss with the carb area, but I'd have to start the bike up and spray some carb cleaner or brake clean around the carbs, and inlet tubes to satisfy my curiosity. I've ignored things that I was confident it couldn't be and discovered that's where my issue exists. don't give up!

I ve no problem chasing that problem. The only thing is; the problem is not manifesting itself in the way that a normal air leak would. It does not hang up on idle when the bike is sitting stationary while running.

It happens only when under load...?
That might infer a vacuum issue, one or two leaky diaphragms in the top of the carbs (or not seated properly), or a line with a little hole in it...?
Or, since it's a bit harder to have a "good" spark when under load, an ignition or battery issue?

No...not under load. It happens after deceleration on the actual road. I've always called the problem of high idle "coasting". So....it is coasting AFTER decelerating from speed. If the bike is stationary and warmed up, it does not "coast".
